Job Summary
Main-mission communication satellites, wideband links, command and telemetry, and terrestrial networks, along with their enabling technologies, are the domain of the Communication Technologies and Engineering Division. The division comprises all aspects, from architectures to implementation; our engineers work directly with corporate customers to ensure robust and resilient communications.
What You’ll Be Doing
- As the manager of the Concept Design and Architecture section, you will be part of the management team of the Communications Payload, Command and Telemetry Dept (CPCTD), providing technical and managerial leadership to a multitude of US government, civil, commercial, and international customers.
- You’ll have the opportunity to contribute and influence future space system design ranging from large GEO satellites to 3U cubesats
- Your responsibilities:
- Develop communication link budget analysis and conceptual communication system designs to support spacecraft rapid trade studies and government reference architectures.
- Perform communication system analyses using modeling and simulation tools
- Interface with department customers and direct organizational resources to effectively respond to needs.
- Assemble and direct teams to analyze, define, and satisfy customer needs from available resources.
- Report organization's technical activities and accomplishments to upper management and customers through written reports.
- Grow Model Based Systems Engineering and/or Digital Engineering capabilities.
- Promote a work environment of diversity, equality and inclusion (DEI) and support corporate DEI goals

What You Need to be Successful
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, physics, or related engineering discipline
- 8 years of progressively responsible engineering experience
- Technical experience in the following space and ground communication systems areas:
- Digital and analog and communication link budget analysis
- Modulation, encoding and encryption
- RF comm system hardware architecting and high-level design
- Physical level interface with spacecraft bus or ground
- Demonstrated team leadership, customer responsiveness, creativity in problem-solving and addressing teaming/interpersonal challenges, ability to rapidly grasp new concepts, and excellent written/verbal communication skills
- Willing to travel domestically approx.10 – 15%
- This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain an SCI security clearance, which is issued by the US government. U.S citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.
How You Can Stand Out
It would be impressive if you have one or more of these:
- Advanced degree from an accredited program in electrical engineering, physics, or related engineering discipline
- Over 12 years of experience in RF communication systems
- Previous line or team management experience and Aerospace Corp program office experience
- Technical experience in one or more of the following space communication systems areas: small satellite comm, system performance analysis, system trade studies, system requirement definition, optical communication, research and development, payload system-level integration and test, ground system design and integration, and failure resolution and risk assessment
- Familiarity with one or more of the following programming languages: C, C++, MATLAB, Java, and Python
