CNC Programmer / Machinist
Team and Role Overview:
Relativity seeks a highly talented CNC Programmer to join a rapidly growing space startup. This position will provide outstanding technical contribution to the development of the Aeon-1 rocket engine, as well as helping to build a world-class CNC team. A high degree of autonomy and initiative is required.
The Mission/Outcomes and Objectives:
Our mission is to change people’s conception of the way rockets are built and flown. As a CNC Programmer, you will co-develop G-codes and machining processes for the Aeon-1 engine. You will be creating manufacturing plans, developing new tooling, and machining flight hardware.
Candidate Profile: (Who is the person we are looking for?)
In order to be successful in this role, you should be someone who thrives in ambiguity and is able to drive their own projects to completion. You must have the passion, tenacity and resolve to work through production issues unique to rocket engines. You must be able to write a manufacturing plan, develop your own tooling and fixtures, and collaborate with manufacturing engineers to develop new machining processes. Ideally, you are someone who has come from a fast paced, aerospace environment, having completed difficult projects while collaborating effectively with multidisciplinary groups.
Minimum Required Skills and Competencies:
- Knowledge of wire EDM machining
- Basic CAD skills
- Demonstrated success in machining aerospace parts on a 5-axis, 3-axis and lathe CNCs
- Knowledge of GD&T and tolerance stack-up
- Ability to work independently and closely follow directions is essential
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds for short periods of time
- Must have strong attention to detail
Preferred Skills and Competencies:
- Knowledge of powder-bed additive manufacturing parts
- Experience machining turbomachinery components
- Experience machining high temp alloys
- Experience in a startup or agile development environment
- Experience working in a flight development program
- Experience with Esprit CAM or equivalent
- Experience with Max-5 (Concepts NREC)
- Read technical drawings and set up the machines in accordance with blueprints
- Perform quality assurance test to ensure products meet design spec
- Adjust g-code paths or setting to optimize production while maintaining quality
- Consider tools required to cut high temp alloys and program machines accordingly
- Troubleshoot and resolve problems with machines as they arise
- Perform basic machine maintenance such as oil and coolant refill, including cleaning and sharpening
- Co-Train new employees on how to properly operate and maintain CNC machines and programs
