The role you're applying for:
Reporting to the Chief Technology Officer, the Chief Architect will play a lead role in driving technology strategy and developing best-in-class architecture fueling BlackLine's continued growth and thought leadership in continuous accounting.
What You'll Do:
- Contribute to the vision and direction for the future of our Continuous Accounting Platform and Services.
- Demonstrate breakthrough thinking in defining and prototyping the use of leading-edge technologies and capabilities for every aspect of BlackLine's product family.
- Build and lead a strong team of architects, providing technical leadership and mentoring across the full Engineering and Cloud organizations.
- Collaborate with Product and Engineering leadership in defining business strategy and in designing solutions to address current and future business requirements and infrastructure needs.
- Establish strong, productive relationships with company leadership to ensure the application and benefit of technologies are well understood, including advocacy and support of technological solutions of others to move the Company forward.
- Define and deliver architectural roadmaps, accounting for existing technical debt, development bottlenecks, and aspirational architecture initiatives to drive revenue, reduce total cost of ownership and cycle time, while supporting overarching company goals.
- Partner with Technology leadership to grow engineering talent through recruitment, career coaching and performance evaluations, and help make our organization be great - being an example of technical leadership and vision with the presence and openness to back it up.
What you need:
- Expertise in the leading-edge technologies used in modern SaaS architectures, including UI frameworks (e.g., Angular, React, style guides), RESTful APIs, caching and persistence layers, distributed architectures with asynchronous queuing systems, and Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning.
- Deep understanding of both technical and non-technical requirements for enterprise SaaS software products and services at scale in the areas of system performance, scalability, security, compliance, usability, ease of implementation, supportability, maintainability, and data center operability for both clients and our business
- Familiarity with major ERP systems like SAP, Oracle, Netsuite, Microsoft Dynamics, and Workday.
- Mastery in current and legacy Microsoft Technologies (.NET, C#, MVC, Web API, Web Forms, Visual Studio, SQL Server), as well as polyglot systems written in Java, Node, and Python.
- Strong working experience with database analysis, design, and performance tuning, as well as experience working with non-SQL data layer design and architectures (NoSQL, non-relational, open-source solutions), including Big Data/cloud-based tooling
- Excellent communication and leadership skills, delivering concise and relevant information to executive management, while striking a balance of being able to speak plainly to hands-on engineers and non-technical stakeholders doing the day to day work.
- BS degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline; MS preferred.
- 15+ years of experience in enterprise software design and development, with a proven track record of delivery paired with increasing responsibility in technical and strategic roles
- 10+ years in technical leadership or management roles
- 10+ years in hands-on programming and architecture design for variety of enterprise software applications, with a proven track record of shipping products and solutions
- 5+ years of experience with Enterprise SaaS solutions and modern web technologies
