You will need to be a self-starter with a complete understanding of the supplier quality function, be willing and able to train others, and have a passion to learn and improve supplier systems and products. This is a very visible position to the organization playing an important role at BAE Systems Space and Mission Systems supporting the Aerospace and Defense industry.

You will be a part of the supply chain risk management process that enables our competitive edge and reduces the risk to programs and our customers.
The Operations Strategic Capabilities Unit plays a fundamental role in enabling efficient business and program execution - from strategic capital investments, industrial operations and an efficient supply chain, to state-of-the-art manufacturing and test operations and top-notch facilities management.
What You'll Do:

  • Become the subject matter expert in Printed Wiring Boards & Assemblies and troubleshoot, recommend, and mitigate manufacturing, material, and process issues.
  • Proficiently utilize electronic manufacturing information systems including the Quality Management System (QMS), Manufacturing Resource Planning (MRP) system, Product Data Management (PDM) system, and other various databases that control and monitor supplier performance.
  • Perform supply chain quality engineering functions including supplier evaluations, on-site system assessments, product realization capability and capacity reviews, and supplier corrective actions (SCARs).
  • Use your understanding of technical specifications and supplier manufacturing processes to troubleshoot and resolve supplier fault issues.
  • Assess supplier risk and facilitate improvements in counterfeit part prevention in the supply chain, support and work cross-functionally with engineering, supply management, inspection and production for all phases, systems, programs and or products from less complicated, single focus activities to extremely complex and highly diverse activities
  • Work collaboratively with Supply Chain and Engineering on strategic sourcing teams to improve sourcing decisions, improve the supply base and selection of available suppliers, and affect improvements when necessary.
  • Review drawings, procedures and engineering orders for completeness and suggest improvements to ensure supplier success.
  • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.

On-Site Work Environment: This position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site three or more days each normally scheduled week in the primary work location. Travel and local commute between company campuses and other possible non-company locations may be required.
Working Conditions:

  • May occasionally work in production work centers where use of protective equipment and gear is required.
  • May access other facilities in various weather conditions.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills
  • BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required plus 6 or more years related experience.
  • Each higher-level related degree, i.e., Master's Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of related experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
  • Experience in supply chain quality engineering and/or hardware quality engineering. Experience in other areas will be considered if there is a supplier and/or quality component.
  • A working knowledge of ISO and AS9100 requirements.
  • Experience and proficiency with Microsoft Office, SharePoint, Oasis, Costpoint, and advanced Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience in performing on-site quality system assessments and evaluating suppliers' ability to produce the needed products, processes or services. Consideration will be given to internal audit experience in lieu of supplier system assessments.
    • Experience in other engineering areas will be considered without direct knowledge of quality requirements. Experience in Printed Wiring Board and Assembly processes will hold a preference over quality assessments, audits, etc.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
