  • What would it take? We challenge assumptions to deliver ambitious results
  • It’s the people. Our team is our competitive advantage and we are better together

YOUR MISSION

True Anomaly is seeking an innovative Electrical Power Systems engineer to help design, analyze, implement, and test spacecraft power subsystems including solar arrays, batteries, charge controllers, DC/DC converters, and power distribution electronics on schedule and within budget. The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of spacecraft systems, circuit analyses and design including schematic capture, power integrity, worst case circuit analysis, grounding, derating, and reliability.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support development of spacecraft EPS hardware: solar arrays, batteries, power distribution units, DC/DC converters, and protection systems
  • Perform analysis, modeling, and trade studies under guidance from senior engineers and technical leads
  • Implement and test EPS components in the lab, using oscilloscopes, power supplies, loads, and solar arrays simulators
  • Contribute to requirements development, design documentation, and design reviews
  • Execute EPS integration and test activities on spacecraft hardware with cross-functional teams
  • Support development of fault protection strategies, power budgets, and power modeling
  • Conduct validation testing including EMI/EMC, thermal cycling, battery characterization, and converter performance
  • Participate in root-cause investigations and corrective-action implementation
  • Follow established processes for configuration control, safety, and hardware traceability
  • Ensure spacecraft EPS meets mission reliability, efficiency, thermal, and radiation tolerance requirements
  • Support schedules, budgets, and risk management activities for the EPS scope within a program

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field (Master’s preferred)
  • 2-4 years of professional experience with spacecraft or high-reliability electrical power systems design
  • Demonstrated experience with spacecraft power modeling, analysis, components, and fault management

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Technical background in solar arrays, battery technologies (Li-ion, LiFePO4), charge control, DC/DC converters, peak power tracking and power distribution
  • Understanding of radiation effects on power systems and mitigation techniques
  • Experience with analog and digital electrical design practices
  • Familiarity with lab test equipment (power supplies, oscilloscopes, electrical loads, solar array simulators)
  • Experience designing, analyzing, and testing for EMI/EMC effects
  • Experience integrating and debugging system level interactions in a HIL/SIL environment
  • Knowledge and experience with power supply stability and analysis

COMPENSATION

  • Base Salary: $95,000-$125,000
  • Equity + Benefits including Health, Dental, Vision, HRA/HSA options, PTO and paid holidays, 401K, Parental Leave

Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, location, and experience.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Work Location—successful candidates will be located near Long Beach, CA. While we observe a hybrid work environment, some work must be done on site.
  • Work environment—the work environment; temperature, noise level, inside or outside, or other factors that will affect the person's working conditions while performing the job.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
