Resource Innovations is seeking an Energy Program Modeling Manager to join our growing team in Louisville, Colorado (or another Resource Innovations office location). We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated manager with a strong background in developing complex analytical decision-support tools to join our dynamic team. As an Energy Program Modeling Manager, you will develop, customize, operate, and maintain a variety of decision-support tools supporting market and economic analysis of energy efficiency, distributed energy resources (solar/storage/EVs), demand response, and related technologies. You will also manage small teams of consultants that develop model inputs, providing overall coordination, collaboration, quality control, and schedule/budget management.

Resource Innovations (RI) is a women-led energy transformation firm focused on impact. Building on our expertise in energy efficiency, we're constantly expanding our portfolio of clean energy solutions to guide utilities through increasingly complex, connected challenges. Load flexibility. Electrification. Carbon reduction. With every step, we're leading the charge to power change.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop, customize, operate, and maintain a variety of decision-support tools supporting market and economic analysis of energy efficiency, distributed energy resources (solar/storage/EVs), demand response, and related technologies.
  • Manage small teams of consultants that develop model inputs, providing overall coordination, collaboration, quality control, and schedule/budget management
  • Interact with clients and other stakeholders to present (written and oral) model methodology, inputs, assumptions, and results/insights.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure that material aspects of technologies and markets are captured in existing or new models.
  • Provide extensive quality control of all model inputs and outputs – with responsibility and accountability for final model outputs and associated recommendations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, energy, engineering, or related field of study.
  • A minimum of 6+ years’ experience in energy-efficiency or a related field.
  • 2+ years of project management or team lead experience.
  • Proven success in developing complex analytical tools to facilitate decision support.
  • Experience developing, customizing, operating, or maintaining analytical tools involving consumer adoption theory (e.g., logit market share modeling), System Dynamics (stock/flow modeling), or economic analysis (e.g., benefit/cost testing) in the energy field. The broadest possible experience with various modeling methods and frameworks is sought, though it is recognized that viable candidates may not have all of the desired expertise.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and ability to provide quality control of all model inputs and outputs, with proven ability to ensure model results are defensible and will withstand scrutiny by interested parties.
  • Detail oriented with the ability to multi-task while consistently meeting deadlines with accuracy and within budget.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Interest in sustainability and passionate about making a meaningful impact on the environment.

Preferred skills, education and experience

  • Master's degree in business, energy, engineering, or related field of study.
  • Experience developing analytical tools in Analytica, Excel, R, Python, or similar modeling frameworks. Strong preference will be given to those with prior experience with Analytica (www.analytica.com), though qualified candidates will have the aptitude and interest to develop these skills through on-the-job training.
  • Expertise in linear programming and nonlinear optimization.
  • Expertise in System Dynamics, including Bass diffusion and other constructs.
  • Expertise in random utility theory for consumer choice.
  • Expertise in the standard energy efficiency and other demand-side technology benefit/cost tests.
  • Expertise in Monte Carlo simulation.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
