Embedded Software Engineer

The Opportunity:

As an embedded software engineer, you know how to create and maintain crucial pieces of software. You use your knowledge to write and optimize code that creates a bridge between pieces of software, allowing them to communicate. We’re looking for an embedded software engineer like you to develop technology for our clients’ most important mission-forward challenges.

As an embedded software engineer at Booz Allen, you’ll support the development of systems, sites, and tools for our clients. Using the latest tools and technology, you’ll write, test, and edit code in support of the team’s overall results. You’ll strengthen your skills as you develop and reverse engineer software that supports hardware functionality on a wide range of devices, as well as configure solutions based on the platform being used. You’ll partner with team leadership to troubleshoot and correct operational issues, as well as with cybersecurity specialists to ensure that the software you’re creating is secure.

Work with us to expand your technology skills and make a meaningful difference.

Join us. The world can’t wait.

You Have:

  • Experience developing embedded or real‑time systems using C or C++
  • Experience with scripting for automation, testing, or tooling
  • Experience working with embedded hardware, including integration with FPGAs, microcontrollers, or custom electronics
  • Experience with real‑time constraints, deterministic execution, and hardware‑software interfacing
  • Experience with testing or prototyping using tools such as MATLAB or LabVIEW
  • Experience participating in Agile workflows such as daily scrums, Jira tracking, or iterative development
  • Ability to communicate clearly with multidisciplinary teams and convey technical information to leadership
  • Top Secret clearance
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, CS, or a STEM field

Nice If You Have:

  • Ability to acquire client requirements and resolve workflow problems through automation optimization
  • Ability to work with automated testing tools to perform testing and maintenance
  • TS/SCI clearance

Clearance:

Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information; Top Secret clearance is required.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
