About the Role

Reflect Orbital believes that talent is talent regardless of experience. If you seek an opportunity to solve hard problems and advance humanity, Reflect Orbital can offer that experience.
The Electrical Test Engineering team at Reflect is responsible for validating that the avionics we've built will work in Space. This involves designing systems and writing automated software for production and qualification testing.

Ideal candidates for this role will be comfortable facing challenges with no known solution, willing to be hands-on individual contributors, and able to work full-time and in person at our Hawthorne, CA office. We encourage all motivated and excellent candidates to apply regardless of the specific set of requirements you meet.

Responsibilities
  • Design test systems for avionics PCBAs and other components

  • Write test software for these test systems to enable automated acceptance testing of PCBAs for high production rate, high reliability avionics systems

  • Design acceptance test protocols and ensure proper test coverage. In short, make sure boards are built correctly before we fly them to space.

  • Prototype and iterate rapidly

Ideal Qualifications
  • Experience designing test system for electrical and avionics systems in spaceflight applications.

  • Experience writing python, ideally exercising common hardware test peripherals like power supplies, electronic loads, DAQs, etc

  • You're capable of incredibly scrappy solutions, but also have experience building & shipping complex and high quality solutions when the problem requires it

  • A careful eye and dedication to ensuring electronics are tested properly before we send them to space.

  • You're both capable of working highly independently, but you know when to seek experience

Even if you don’t meet 100% of the above qualifications, we are likely still interested in hearing from you. Hiring exceptional individuals is our #1 priority, and we believe that exceptional people often have highly unusual backgrounds.

We are also interested in carving out unique roles for unconventional people that we are excited about working with.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
