About the Team:
As an Electrical Engineer within the Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) team, you will be at the forefront of creating a world-class manufacturing site at our Long Beach facilities. This role requires balancing technical design reviews of medium to high voltage assets and systems with on-site engagement with key cross-functional stakeholders. This role will be initially focused on understanding operational processes and identifying hazards to develop and implement effective electrical safety programs. The Electrical Engineer will collaborate closely with manufacturing engineers, production, operations, and maintenance teams to ensure safe execution of medium to high voltage manufacturing and testing operations. This includes conducting risk assessments and incident investigations, and developing procedures tailored to high voltage environments, to foster a culture of electrical safety and compliance across our Long Beach sites.
About the Role:
- Actively participate and provide actionable recommendations during design and test readiness reviews with engineering and operations stakeholders:
- Develop and review electrical distribution design, hazard classification, load balancing, single-line diagrams, design documentation.
- Conduct short circuit analysis, arc flash and breaker coordination studies, motor starting analysis.
- Conduct electrical safety reviews of DC high voltage system hardware and process designs and provide safety requirements and recommendations to stakeholders.
- Serve as the primary electrical engineer embedded with engineering, operations and EHS teams on electrical safety. This includes acting as an electrical safety authority to review Electrical Hazard Analyses (EHAs) and approve Work Permits.
- Cross-functionally develop and implement risk reduction strategies to minimize incidents and ensure a safe working environment and safe project execution.
- Monitor and implement compliance with applicable electrical safety regulations, industry standards, and internal company policies.
About You:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering.
- 3+ years of progressive electrical experience, including electrical safety in development, laboratories, or new product introduction environment.
- 1+ years of experience in lithium-ion battery safety.
- Strong working knowledge of NEC, NFPA 70E, ASME, DOE-HDBK-1092-2013 and related safety standards.
- Proven experience conducting technical risk assessments, hazard analysis, and incident investigations in complex technical environments.
- Experience with Easy Power- short circuit analysis, arc flash & breaker coordination studies, motor starting analysis
Nice to haves but not required:
- Experience with NFPA 72, NFPA 495, NFPA 497Ability to develop and deliver specialized safety training for technical teams.
- CSP, CHST, or OSHA 30/General Industry
