At WHOOP, we're on a mission to unlock human performance. WHOOP empowers members to perform at a higher level through a deeper understanding of their bodies and daily lives.

WHOOP is hiring an Electrical Engineer to join the Hardware team, focused on sustaining engineering and continuous improvement of test infrastructure. In this role, you will develop and refine test systems for existing products, while working cross-functionally with New Product Introduction (NPI) and advanced development teams to ensure future hardware is built on robust and scalable test foundations. Your work will help ensure product quality and performance throughout the entire product lifecycle.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain and improve test infrastructure for existing WHOOP products, driving enhancements in reliability, efficiency, and reproducibility
  • Collaborate with NPI and advanced development teams to define test requirements early in the design cycle and build scalable solutions to support product launches
  • Design, document, and deploy automated test systems (hardware and software) used in engineering validation and production support
  • Support root cause analysis and troubleshooting of test issues in both development and manufacturing environments
  • Create clear, maintainable documentation and processes to support reproducible test setups and smooth handoffs between engineering and operations teams
  • Travel domestically and internationally (up to 15%) to interface with suppliers, contract manufacturers, and test partners

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BS or higher in Electrical Engineering or a related field
  • 0–5 years of relevant experience in test development, sustaining engineering, or electrical design
  • Strong understanding of electronics fundamentals and hands-on experience with lab instrumentation (oscilloscopes, multimeters, VNAs, etc.)
  • Proficiency with Python scripting for test automation and data analysis
  • Experience with version control tools like Git and package management tools (pip, conda)
  • Familiarity with schematic capture and layout using tools such as Altium
  • Effective communicator with the ability to document processes and collaborate across hardware, firmware, and manufacturing teams
  • Strong commitment to embracing and leveraging AI tools in day-to-day tasks, ensuring AI-assisted work aligns with the same high-quality standards as personal contributions

WE WOULD LOVE TO SEE:

  • Experience maintaining or improving test systems in a production or sustaining environment
  • Exposure to statistical analysis methods and tools for test data interpretation
  • Familiarity with test fixture design and integration
  • Background in coordinating with contract manufacturers and test equipment vendors

This role is based in the WHOOP office located in Boston, MA. The successful candidate must be prepared to relocate if necessary to work out of the Boston, MA office.

Interested in the role, but don’t meet every qualification? We encourage you to still apply! At WHOOP, we believe there is much more to a candidate than what is written on paper, and we value character as much as experience. As we continue to build a diverse and inclusive environment, we encourage anyone who is interested in this role to apply.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
