The job:

Are you a hands-on problem solver who thrives in fast-paced environments? We are seeking a skilled Electrical-Control Systems Engineer II - III to join our Engineering Team. In this role, you’ll bring automated systems to life—from design to programming to on-site commissioning and troubleshooting. You’ll work directly with our clients and internal teams to ensure projects are delivered smoothly, safely, and successfully.

As our Electrical-Control System Engineer II-III, you will be responsible for the design, implementation, and testing of electrical control systems across multiple projects. You will support efforts in project management, hardware selection, PLC and HMI programming, panel design, field commissioning, and system troubleshooting.

Your responsibilities will include developing PLC and HMI applications, programming complex sequences such as lead/lag and cascade PID control and performing in-shop testing and on-site startups. You will coordinate with production personnel, vendors, and internal teams to ensure project alignment. You will participate in panel layout design, bill of material creation, and design analysis including fuse, breaker, and wire sizing. You will also be responsible for technical document writing, including training materials and testing procedures, and for supporting continuous training and development efforts.

What will you do in this role:

  • Utilize Knowledge of industry standards (UL508A, NEC, IEEE) to design and specify hardware and software for industrial control systems
  • Configure PLCs, OITs, and SCADA Systems for industrial process and water/wastewater systems
  • Lead intermediate-level projects independently, mentoring and guiding other team members
  • Lead field commissioning efforts, including I/O checkout, functional testing, and system startup of PLCs, HMIs, SCADA, VFDs, and instrumentation.
  • Troubleshoot real-time issues across automation hardware, software, and communication networks.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, contractors, and end users to ensure smooth implementation and customer satisfaction.
  • Provide field service and technical support post-installation as needed.
  • Redline drawings, document commissioning activities, and support project closeout efforts.

Education, Experience and Ability Requirements: 

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Instrumentation, or related field — or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • Minimum 5-7 years of experience in automation design, programming, startup, service, or commissioning roles.
  • Proficiency in PLC/HMI/SCADA systems such as Rockwell (Studio 5000, FactoryTalk View), Siemens, Schneider, GE, VTScada, Ignition, etc.
  • Strong understanding of industrial networks: Ethernet/IP, Profinet, Modbus TCP, serial protocols, and wireless communications.
  • Ability to interpret P&IDs, single-line diagrams, and electrical schematics.
  • Field-ready attitude, with excellent problem-solving skills and a commitment to safety.
  • Comfortable working in industrial, municipal, or water/wastewater environments.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and customer service mindset.
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel frequently.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with GE iFIX, Schneider Unity/Control Expert, or Siemens TIA Portal
  • VFD startup certifications (ABB, Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Schneider, etc.)
  • Experience with instrument calibration and loop checks
  • OSHA 30 or other industrial safety training
