Netflix is one of the world's leading entertainment services, with over 300 million paid memberships in over 190 countries enjoying TV series, films and games across a wide variety of genres and languages. Members can play, pause and resume watching as much as they want, anytime, anywhere, and can change their plans at any time.
The Role
Netflix Publishing is expanding its Live, Unscripted, & Sports coverage and looking for a sharp, self-directed Editorial Specialist to help define how we tell stories around our most buzzy real-time events, sports titles, and reality shows — from Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson and the NFL Christmas Day games to the FIFA Women’s World Cup and beyond. You’ll combine journalistic rigor with brand marketing savvy to craft content that fuels fandom for our titles and live events, and sustains it with evergreen, search-optimized storytelling.
While 80-90 percent of your focus will be on Live and Sports, you’ll also jump in on high-profile Unscripted series (think Love Is Blind and Temptation Island) when campaign calendars overlap. In every case you’ll create content around the editorial point of view, working fluidly with Social, PR, Marketing, and Product teams to ensure our coverage ladders into larger Netflix campaign goals.
Based in Los Angeles, this position requires three days a week of work in the office.
Responsibilities
Title Research: Comprehensively review Netflix internal materials — scripts, production schedules — to gain context and background that will inform your interviews and reporting.
Idea Generation: Actively participate in title brainstorm sessions by pitching innovative, creative and industry-leading ideas.
Strong Talent Relations: You thoroughly prep for interviews and can make anyone feel at ease by steering thoughtful, fun and comfortable conversations that generate the type of killer anecdotes that elevate our coverage.
Content Creation: Compile and edit interviews and write stories with the aim of creating conversation by engaging and informing readers. You’ll also repackage and rewrite articles, as needed, depending on the intended audience (awards voters vs fans, for example). Contribute to content plans and work with the curation team on finding assets for news beats. Work closely with the Editorial Manager and cross-functional partners across marketing, comms and social to ensure editorial coverage supports broader campaign goals.
Getting to Know Fans: Fans are obsessed with our titles and you’re obsessed with them. You balance fan instincts with editorial rigor, using consumer insights and cultural trends to inform content that’s both resonant and smart.
Monitor Content Performance: After publication of your articles, work with SEO and Growth and Insights teams to optimize content, be it tweaking SEO copy or adding subheads to articles to capitalize on fan interest.
