The Opportunity

Bedrock is seeking a Director or Vice President of Engineering to lead our engineering organization through its next phase of growth and maturity. This role is ideal for a process-driven, execution-focused leader who thrives on building teams, scaling systems, and delivering with quality and predictability.

The Director or VP of Engineering will own delivery excellence—driving disciplined execution, process rigor, and high-quality outcomes across a fast-scaling engineering team. This is not a coding role, but a leadership position for someone who knows how to set direction, coach technical teams, and ensure the trains run on time.

Key Responsibilities

Execution & Delivery Leadership
  • Own the engineering execution pipeline, ensuring predictable, high-quality product delivery.

  • Establish scalable processes across release management, QA, test automation, and deployment.

  • Drive accountability, velocity, and communication within engineering and across functions.

  • Partner closely with Product to ensure clear handoffs, alignment, and delivery discipline.

Process, Quality & Operations
  • Implement engineering processes that improve quality, reliability, and on-time performance.

  • Strengthen automation, testing, and deployment practices to reduce regressions and post-release issues.

  • Lead continuous improvement efforts focused on developer productivity and product stability.

People & Team Leadership
  • Lead and scale a high-performing engineering team from ~20 to 30+ engineers over the next 12–18 months.

  • Own hiring, mentoring, and performance management across the engineering function.

  • Identify and upgrade talent, bringing in experienced engineers and technical leaders to strengthen the team.

  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Strategic Growth & Scalability
  • Partner with leadership to plan and execute engineering expansion in alignment with company goals.

  • Anticipate scaling needs in people, process, and infrastructure as Bedrock grows.

Serve as a cultural anchor for engineering, driving excellence, clarity, and operational consistency.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
