Modern Animal is building the future of veterinary care, together - and we’re looking for a leader to implement and drive the recruiting strategy and results for the company. Reporting to the COO, this role is responsible for building the foundations to ensure we can continue to attract the best talent, especially doctors and care team members, at the pace required.  With a focus on building foundations and implementing strategies that solve some of the industry's hardest challenges, this analytical leader will be excited to set Modern Animal apart from the rest. They will thrive in an entrepreneurial environment, and will be passionate about scaling a workforce across many locations, in multiple states. 


This role is based in Los Angeles in our HQ.

Responsibilities:

  • Hiring: Own and execute differentiated strategies in full-cycle recruiting across all workforce categories (Virtual Care, Clinic Level Doctor and Care Team, and Corporate).  Achieve time-bound hiring goals by market.
  • Talent Strategy: Implement employer brand and recruitment strategies that will contribute to the long-range growth of the company, starting with a clear POV of core value prop for different talent types (particularly different doctor personas), in partnership with the medicine and operations team. Build initiatives that nurture nurses, new graduates, and externs so that Modern Animal becomes their top choice of employer long before they graduate from school. Define a longer term approach to doctor type diversification (e.g., urgent care), doctor compensation, and the adoption and execution of a flexible scheduling model across doctor and care team populations to enhance workforce satisfaction, retention, and operational agility.
  • Team Leadership: Lead the talent acquisition team, developing talent in a high-performance and dynamic environment.
  • Funnel Growth + Talent Marketing: Optimize the full recruiting funnel and implement talent marketing strategies across channels — for example: craft compelling messaging for veterinarians, enhance Careers page performance, implement CE and other event strategies, develop our on campus presence, etc. Partner with marketing to create high-impact, conversion-driven content across channels, especially social media.
  • End-to-End Recruiting Process: Design systems, processes and the candidate journey to decentralize and scale hiring pace and quality. Assess and improve system configurations maximize agility, productivity and insights.
  • KPI Management: Develop and perform to talent KPIs - starting with clear leading indicators across the recruiting funnel to hit hiring timelines.
  • Budget Efficiency: Manage the talent budget, ensuring efficient allocation of resources to maximize recruiting impact and ROI, including sign-on bonus and referral payment strategies.
  • Market Intelligence: develop and leverage deep industry knowledge to inform talent strategies and accelerate company growth through data-driven, industry-level insights.
  • Relationship Building: Create relationships and have frequent interaction with third-party companies in order to expand the company's strategic partnerships across the industry.

Ideal Experience + Traits:

  • Ideally, 10+ years of relevant experience with an hourly, distributed workforce (healthcare experience is certainly a “nice to have”, but not a “must have”).
  • MBA or general management experience a plus
  • Excellent problem solver and analytical, first-principle thinker.
  • Strong people leader, able to identify and develop talent.  Strong track record of inspiring and leading people through transformation and change.
  • Passion to achieve great results and to significantly grow the organization. Demonstrated capabilities in setting priorities and guiding investment in people and systems.  Strong track record of results.
  • Orientation toward action, and an ability to work in an ambiguous, fast-paced and rapidly changing environment, while driving towards clarity and solutions.
  • Relentlessly high standards, and incredible levels of tenacity, empathy, and energy. 
  • Strong relationship management; you’ll interact with leaders and teammates across all levels, both in clinic and across corporate. 
  • Experience with Greenhouse, Slack and Google Suite a plus.
  • Based in Los Angeles or willing to relocate.

  • The compensation for this position is $166,000 to $210,000 per year
