Reporting to the SVP Accounting, the Director of Revenue Accounting & Operations will serve as a key member of the accounting/finance leadership team. The Director of Revenue Accounting & Operations will partner with the technical accounting team and work with the business to provide both revenue recognition compliant and scalable solutions, including review and approval of sales contracts, and new product introductions. In addition, this role will oversee the teams responsible for other key facets of revenue accounting & related operations including customer onboarding and credit review, billing, collections, month end revenue accounting and commissions processing and related accounting.   


This role will work closely with finance (FP&A, controllership, technical accounting, etc.), sales, revenue operations, deal desk and legal to ensure organizational wide goals around revenue growth are met, while delivering scalable, GAAP and SOX compliant results.  This role will be hands-on when it comes to process improvements, system implementations and optimizations and helping to scale the business through its next phase of growth.


StackAdapt is a Remote First company, we are open to candidates located anywhere in Canada or the United States for this position, but will need to work Eastern or Central hours.

What you'll be doing:

  • Oversee and manage the day to day responsibilities of the credit, AR, and revenue accounting teams.
  • Work closely with deal desk, sales and legal teams to review non-standard customer contracts with an eye for ensuring scalability, operationalization and GAAP/internal control compliance.  Provide thought leadership on best practices to streamline cross functional reviews as deal desk continues to evolve.
  • Work closely with technical accounting to understand and communicate revenue recognition implications of non-standard deals and new product offerings to sales and finance leadership.
  • Lead the revenue accounting close and reporting process (revenue, accounts receivable, deferred revenue and related reserves/accruals) ensuring compliance with US. GAAP, internal controls and company policy and procedures.  Work to shrink close timelines with an aim to deliver accurate information to the business in a more timely manner.
  • Partner with revenue operations to streamline the sales commission process and oversee month end close commission requirements.
  • Partner with the sales and product teams to drive improvements to our existing monthly billing processes geared towards automation and a more timely revenue close.  As new product offerings are introduced, work cross functionally to design, develop and implement processes and system requirements to facilitate appropriate customer billing.
  • Enhance KPI reporting in regards to key AR and collection metrics.  Leverage data to provide actionable insights to drive improvements in cash collections.
  • Work with sales leadership to design enhanced and standardized processes and approval flows as it relates to up front credit limits, on-going credit evaluations and collection escalations.
  • Partner with FP&A to create revenue flash reporting that will support more timely delivery of key top-line information to senior leadership.
  • Support external audit requirements related to specific areas of responsibility; particularly revenue, accounts receivable, deferred revenue and commissions.

What you’ll bring to the table:

  • 10+ years of relevant finance/accounting experience with at least five years overseeing/managing a team.  Experience in the software/technology space required, AdTech experience highly desired.
  • Strong people management skills and the ability to be a “player/coach”; providing oversight and mentorship to the team, but willing to get into the details to work through issues/problems.
  • Experience working with financial ERPs and other finance systems, Netsuite experience desired.  Thought leadership on potential software/tools to drive greater efficiency in areas of ownership highly desired. 
  • Experience driving improvements and enhancements within quote to cash processes.
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to drive process improvements. 
  • Strong grasp of US GAAP with a particular emphasis on ASC 606.
  • Experience at a Big four/national accounting firm or within a public company, highly desired.
