Lead the communication strategy for VALORANT, engaging players through multiple channels, developing content strategies, and fostering community trust. Advocate for player needs while directing a cross-functional team to deliver impactful messaging and narratives.
The summary above was generated by AI

We’re looking for a strategic storyteller and decisive comms leader, someone who thrives in fast-moving environments and understands how to listen to players and make them feel heard around a live service game.

As Editor-in-Chief for VALORANT you’ll be architecting how we show up to players across the broader ecosystem, in our owned and unowned channels, shaping the stories we tell, how we tell them, and where. The modern Editor-in-Chief’s front page is everywhere our players are, and often, outside of Riot channels. We need to meet players where they’re at.

This role is about setting the story for the game and the team, knowing what players care about before it hits critical mass, and steering both proactive messaging and reactive responses. You'll be responsible for communicating to players and building the long-term trust that keeps our community engaged and inspired; setting the narrative across the entire player experience, from proactive tentpole storytelling to reactive community engagement, spanning dev comms, content, influencers, social, and community.

You’ll lead a high-functioning, cross-disciplinary community and comms unit, one that champions our players internally and delivers comms that hit and build long-term trust.

What you’ll do:Drive the Player Narrative
  • Own the day-to-day narrative for VALORANT, both proactively and reactively. What should players believe about our game and team today, and what will they believe six months from now?
  • Develop and maintain a clear, year-long comms strategy: what we want players to understand, feel, and say, and how we’re going to get there.
  • Monitor and triage sentiment risks and trending player conversations before they escalate. Deliver recommendations and act fast.
  • Be THE player advocate, representing the player to the entire studio, advocating for their needs and pain points.
Lead the Ecosystem Strategy
  • Treat the anywhere players talk about VALORANT as the front page, no matter if it’s a creator podcast, TikTok channel, Twitter conversation, etc. Where our players are, we are.
  • Decide when to speak, where to speak, who speaks, and what we say across owned, earned, and social-first spaces.
  • Partner with devs, producers, and publishing leads to ensure we’re showing up consistently and impactfully to players.
  • Drive a clear strategy and goals for content creator ecosystem programs and community programs

Owned Content Strategy

  • Act as “editor-in-chief” of the day to day player experience: Drive day-to-day player journeys in alignment with the vision of the holistic player experience across game, sport, and community on our owned channels
  • Program the overall content experience on owned channels, ranging from Riot Client, VALORANT client, our website, and social channels
  • Develop a content strategy and measurement framework that helps measure the efficacy of our content and resonance with players
Build and Empower the Team
  • Lead a cross-functional team of social, community, influencer, and comms experts, our internal comms newsroom.
  • Develop a clear 2026 Community and Comms strategy that makes it easy for individual crafts to develop their own 2026 plans, aligned to the overall VALORANT Studio strategy
  • Be a coach and unblocker. Elevate your team beyond craft execution into player-first comms thinking and decisions.
  • Foster a fast-moving, decisive, player-obsessed culture that values clarity, accountability, and results.
What we’re looking for:
  • 10+ years of experience in communications, editorial, community, content strategy, or related disciplines
  • Proven track record of shaping comms for major titles or entertainment properties
  • Deep familiarity with gaming, shooter players, and internet culture, ideally has a deep familiarity with VALORANT
  • Experience working across multiple publishing functions (social, community, PR, etc.), especially in matrixed teams
  • Fast, fluent writing chops, you can draft a tweet in our voice and hit send, or prep a reactive Reddit post that earns trust
  • Sharp, systems thinker with an eye for emerging risks, sentiment trends, and player dynamics
  • Experience managing teams and stakeholders through ambiguous, high-stakes moments
  • Ability to prioritize ruthlessly, especially under pressure
Bonus points for:
  • Experience in competitive gaming or esports environments
  • History of building strong relationships with dev teams, helping them communicate more authentically
  • Comfortable representing the product to leadership, players, and partners alike

For this role, you'll find success through craft expertise, a collaborative spirit, and decision-making that prioritizes the delight of players. We will be looking at your past studies, experience, and your personal relationship with games. If you embody player empathy and care about players' experiences, this could be your role

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
