Founded in 2005, iam8bit is a creative production emporium that has quietly redefined the entertainment industry, time and time again. Collaborating with a plethora of partners and narrative-busting IPs, iam8bit punctuates the importance of engaging with fans directly. By creating the video game industry's very first community events, the company injected the idea of experiential immersion into game and film marketing. iam8bit also played a crucial role in the vinyl renaissance, minting its first record in 2010, and is the industry leader in premium physical editions of top-tier games. In 2020, iam8bit evolved into financing and publishing games, with several yet-to-be-announced PC, console and tabletop games on the horizon under its iam8bit Presents imprint.

iam8bit XP is where creativity meets execution — producing unforgettable brand activations and headline-grabbing stunts for partners like Epic Games/Fortnite; industry-revolutionizing events like Summer Game Fest: Play Days and Day of the Devs, popup shops at conventions like PAX, Anime Expo, GDC and Comic-Con; and groundbreaking merchandise for some of the biggest names in gaming and entertainment, like Disney, Nintendo, Xbox, SEGA, PlayStation, Universal and so many more. We’re looking for a Director of Project Management who can bring strategic vision, leadership, and calm under pressure to a team that thrives on impossible timelines and never-been-done-before ideas.

The ideal candidate is a ruthless systems thinker with a passion for fast-paced environments and fearless creative production — someone who can whirl chaos into a magical flowstate. You’ll lead our team of project managers, coordinators and an army of contractors to deliver world-class experiences for our partners, while continuously refining how we plan, communicate, and execute.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead, mentor, and develop the Project Management team to ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and on budget.
  • Oversee day-to-day operations across multiple concurrent projects, including brand activations, live events, conventions, mailers and merchandise campaigns.
  • Navigate secrecy requirements and limited-information environments while still driving projects forward efficiently and collaboratively.
  • Implement and continuously improve project management systems, tools, and best practices that enhance efficiency and communication.
  • Serve as the department’s strategic anchor — balancing creative ambition with operational precision.
  • Identify and mitigate project risks, ensuring proactive communication and problem-solving at every level.
  • Develop department-wide workflows that optimize resources and promote alignment.
  • Collaborate with leadership on capacity planning, staffing, and forecasting to ensure smooth project flow and balanced workloads.
  • Support client relationships through strategic oversight, ensuring project excellence and consistency with brand and business objectives.
  • Foster a collaborative and positive team culture that emphasizes transparency, accountability, and innovation.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 8+ years of experience in project or production management, preferably in a marketing agency, experiential, or entertainment environment.
  • 3+ years of team leadership or management experience.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities.
  • Proven experience implementing or optimizing project management systems (e.g., Wrike, Asana, Monday.com).
  • Deep understanding of the creative process and production workflows in event, brand, or entertainment marketing.
  • Skilled at budget management, resourcing, and forecasting.
  • Adept at navigating ambiguity and shifting priorities with grace and clarity.
  • Passionate about mentoring others, building efficient systems, and driving operational excellence in a creative environment.
  • Strong judgment and professionalism when managing privileged information or restricted-access materials.
  • PMP certification is a big plus.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The successful candidate must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation. This may require lifting, carrying, bending, standing for extended periods, climbing, walking, fine motor skills, and other physical activities associated with a Project Management and leadership role.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
