About the Company

Compound Eye teaches machines to understand their surroundings in 3D and in real time using only passive sensors like cameras. Our VIDAS™ technology enables vehicles, drones, and other robots to determine their position and navigate their environment without LiDAR, radar, or GPS. Compound Eye has customers in both defense and commercial robotics and is backed by Khosla Ventures, RTX Ventures, and other leading investors.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Director of Product Management to translate product strategy into a detailed roadmap for our next phase of growth. Reporting directly to the CEO, you will be responsible for building and maintaining that roadmap, driving development from concept to launch, and ensuring our solutions meet the evolving needs of commercial and defense customers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Product Strategy & Roadmap: Develop and maintain a detailed product roadmap, translating company strategy and customer challenges into a prioritized list of products and features, based on market analysis, stakeholder interviews, and technical feasibility.
  • Product Lifecycle Management: Manage the entire product lifecycle from discovery through user stories, PRD, development, launch, and post-launch optimization.
  • Market & Customer Understanding: Conduct in-depth market research, competitive analysis, and end user interviews to identify emerging opportunities and operational requirements for autonomous systems. Turn insights into user stories and actionable product requirements documents (PRDs).
  • Mission-Driven & Customer-Focused: Advocate for the needs of end users from farmworkers to warfighters and ensure that product development is centered on them.
  • Cross-Functional Leadership: Collaborate effectively with engineering, business development, marketing, and external partners to ensure timely and high-quality product delivery and to develop and execute successful go-to-market strategies, including pricing, positioning, and messaging.
  • Performance Tracking: Define and track key product metrics (KPIs), analyzing performance to identify areas for improvement and to inform future product decisions.

To thrive in this role, you have:

  • 5+ years of experience in product management, with at least 2 years in a leadership role at a fast-growing company building robots or other complex systems that combine hardware and software.
  • Experience collaborating with multiple engineering and robotic disciplines, including ML, software, electrical, and mechanical.
  • Experience working with agile development methodologies.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills: must be able to articulate complex concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, including verbal presentations to end users and decision makers and written reports for agencies that provide funding.
  • Technical fluency in one or more topics related to robotics and autonomy: able to engage in detailed discussions with engineers and researchers and to recognize and capture novel ideas that might transform our roadmap.
  • Able to travel domestically and if necessary internationally to meet with end users.

While not required, it would help to have:

  • Military or defense industry experience.
  • Technical fluency in computer vision (classical or deep learning) and applications of computer vision to robotics.

Pay range and compensation package

The base salary range for this role is $185,000 – $225,000 annually, depending on experience. In addition, we offer early equity in an early-stage company, comprehensive medical/dental/vision coverage, a 401(k) with company match, and paid parental leave.

Equal Opportunity Statement

We understand that no candidate is perfectly qualified for any job and experience comes in different forms. We encourage you to apply if you see yourself being successful in this position. Compound Eye is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, or any other protected characteristic as outlined by federal, state, or local laws.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
