The role

The Director of Product, Pay owns the product experience and technology-enabled workflows that move a purchase through payment, invoice processing, and reconciliation. You will lead product strategy, discovery, definition, delivery, instrumentation, and post-launch improvement for Pay, working with Engineering and Design and in close partnership with the Payments business leader and Finance.

This is an outcome-owning product leadership role, not a payments P&L or operational program-lead role. You will be measured on whether Pay products are reliable, faster to bring to market, and less costly to operate.

What you will own

Payment products and reliability
  • Define the customer and administrator experience for virtual cards and other supported payment methods, including controls, payment status, failures, disputes, and intervention paths.
  • Own product requirements, instrumented quality, and the technical integration and viability assessment of payment rails and partners, with Engineering.
  • Improve the reliability and operability of payment journeys; use production evidence and customer feedback to prioritize fixes.
  • Work with the Payments business on partner performance and re-platform decisions.
AP automation and reconciliation
  • Own the product workflows for invoice capture, extraction, matching, exception resolution, and reconciliation against purchasing activity.
  • Reduce manual handling and cost-to-serve through measurable improvements in accuracy, automation, and exception handling.
  • Define the Pay-side data and workflow needed to reconcile into customer financial systems.
  • Apply AI-assisted extraction, matching, or exception handling only where evaluation shows better accuracy, cost, or customer outcomes, with human oversight and auditability appropriate to the risk.
Credit and working-capital product
  • Own the decisioning-system product requirements, customer experience, and payment-rail implementation for approved credit or working-capital offerings.
  • Translate the Payments business case and Finance's policy into a usable, instrumented product journey.
Strategy, prioritization, and delivery
  • Own Pay product discovery, definition, delivery, launch instrumentation, and post-launch product measurement, drawing on customer, market, field, and operating evidence.
  • Build an evidence-backed product roadmap and business-case input for the CTO portfolio process.
  • Within an approved and funded payments program, work with the Payments business on its commercial sequence and translate that sequence into feasible product plans. Changes that require additional capacity or displace other portfolio commitments return to the portfolio decision process; the business leader does not direct Product or Engineering capacity unilaterally.
  • Co-sign specifications with the Payments business before development. Accept delivered work jointly against the agreed specification; raise gaps with evidence and escalate unresolved deadlocks to the COO and CTO together.
  • Define a success metric and instrumentation plan before delivery; review outcomes after launch and recommend whether to scale, improve, or stop.
Commercial and control partnerships
  • Recommend Pay module packaging, entitlements, and product mechanics. The Payments business owns the commercial strategy and business case; Finance approves the economics.
  • Build and instrument promotion and adoption mechanics against an economic envelope approved by Finance.
  • Provide product explanations, documentation, and demo assets. =
  • Build payment controls, auditability, and evidence into the product with Engineering and Security. Finance owns compliance, licensing, money-movement risk, credit policy, and capital decisions; Product does not approve its own risk exceptions.
What you bring
  • Substantial product-management experience in payments, fintech, embedded finance, AP automation, or another financially complex workflow.
  • Experience leading product managers or clear readiness for product people leadership, with evidence of coaching and developing others.
  • A demonstrated improvement in a product, reliability, time-to-market, or unit-cost outcome, including how you measured it and what trade-offs you made.
  • Experience with partner-dependent products and sound build-versus-partner judgment.
  • Working knowledge of payment flows, card controls, invoice matching, reconciliation, fraud and disputes, and audit requirements.
  • Ability to work across Product, Engineering, Payments, Finance, Risk, and Operations without confusing collaboration with decision authority.
  • Clear written communication and the ability to turn a business requirement into an agreed specification and measurable product outcome.
What you’ll receive
  • Meaningful ownership over a core product pillar and the opportunity to shape how Order.co’s platform evolves as we scale
  • The opportunity to build and develop a high-performing Product team while partnering closely with senior leaders across Product, Engineering, Design, and the business
  • A fast-paced, high-ownership environment where Product leaders are accountable for measurable customer and business outcomes
  • Employer-sponsored 401(k)
  • Flexible time off and remote work policies
  • Robust medical, dental, vision, and wellness benefits
  • Generous leave policies and support for new and current parents
  • The anticipated annual base salary range for this role is $220,000–$260,000. Actual compensation and title will be determined based on experience, qualifications, knowledge, skills, and other job-related factors. This role is also eligible for an equity grant as part of the total compensation package.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
