The Director of Product Marketing will drive market research, product positioning, and go-to-market strategies for LiDAR and optical technologies, ensuring effective communication and alignment between engineering teams and market needs.
Lumotive is pioneering the era of programmable optics—where light is controlled as intelligently and flexibly as software.
At the heart of this transformation is a once-in-a-generation innovation: a flat CMOS-based “general purpose optic.” Lumotive’s Light Control Metasurface (LCM™) beam forming chips can be programmed to function as a beam steering mirror, a lens, mirror, a beam splitter—or any optical function—replacing bulky and mechanical optical components with a fully digital, reconfigurable semiconductor . This breakthrough lays the foundation for a massive shift in multiple technologies—from 3D sensing and imaging to optical networking, free space optical communication, and beyond. Like the shift from analog to digital in electronics, programmable optics will reshape industries from robotics, self-driving cars, AI, defense, and healthcare.
Lumotive’s first commercial application is in LiDAR, where its software-defined beam steering chips are already enabling compact, high-performance, solid-state sensors. These sensors are being deployed today in smart infrastructure, robotics, and mobility systems through leading module makers and solution integrators.
With more than 200 patents and growing commercial traction, Lumotive is delivering the world’s first digital platform for light—and redefining what’s possible in the optical age.
Job Description:
Lumotive is looking for a Director of Product Marketing to drive market intelligence, product positioning, and go-to-market strategies for our core LiDAR and optical semiconductor technologies. This is a mid-level leadership role responsible for gathering and synthesizing market intelligence, defining product-market fit, and creating high-impact technical content that positions Lumotive as a leader in the 3D sensing industry. The ideal candidate will be a technical leader with a deep understanding of emerging technologies and markets, exceptional communication skills, and the ability to work cross-functionally in a fast-paced startup environment.
Responsibilities:

- Generate high-quality marketing collateral, technical presentations, whitepapers, and product briefs tailored for various market segments and applications.
- Ensure all external-facing content, messaging, and collateral remain fresh, clear, and impactful to drive customer engagement.
- Translate market intelligence into Market Requirement Documents (MRDs) that inform engineering and product development.
- Work closely with semiconductor engineering, systems engineering, and customer engineering teams to define technical roadmaps, milestones, and launch timelines.
- Align market pricing expectations with product cost structures and business objectives.
- Act as a key interface between engineering, business development, and customers, ensuring smooth communication and execution.
- Align semiconductor engineering, systems engineering, and customer support teams to synchronize development efforts.
- Support customer and partner engagements to ensure successful product adoption and business growth.
- Maintain close relationships with existing and potential customers, understanding their needs and aligning them with Lumotive’s offerings.
- Be customer-facing, representing Lumotive at trade shows, partner events, and customer meetings.
- Travel 25-30% of the time for business engagements and industry events.
Qualifications:
- Proven ability to communicate complex technical solutions in a clear, simple, and compelling way.
- 10+ years of experience in product marketing, product management, or technical leadership roles in a technology startup or high-growth company.
- Advanced degree in engineering (e.g., electrical engineering, optics, photonics, or a related field).
- Experience in emerging technologies, deep-tech startups, or complex hardware/software solutions (LiDAR, optics, semiconductors, or 3D sensing is a plus).
- Track record of market research, defining product-market fit, and influencing engineering roadmaps.
- Strong ability to synthesize complex market information into actionable insights for executive leadership.
- Hands-on, dynamic, and adaptable mindset, comfortable wearing multiple hats in a startup environment.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene
Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.
Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech
- Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
- Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
- Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
- Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
