Company Overview

Our mission is to illuminate and accelerate global work. We build Hubstaff, an industry-leading time tracking and workforce management platform for remote and distributed teams. We were early believers in remote work and have been fully remote for over a decade.

Today, more than 95,000 businesses rely on Hubstaff to run their operations — tracking time and activity, managing schedules and shifts, generating invoices, and paying teams globally. As remote and global work continue to scale, we believe Hubstaff will become a core operational system for modern businesses. We are building toward that future and are looking for strong product leadership to help us get there.

Product Overview

Hubstaff serves SMB and mid-market companies that hire globally and manage distributed, often client-facing teams. Our product spans time tracking and proof of work, workforce management, productivity insights, and payments.

We focus on increasing transparency for teams, saving time for managers and administrators, and helping organizations operate more effectively at scale. Many customers depend on Hubstaff as a mission-critical system, and we are committed to continuing to raise the bar on product quality, usability, and business impact.

The Role

The Director of Product is a senior leadership role responsible for elevating product strategy, execution, and people leadership across Hubstaff’s core product areas. You will lead and develop a team of Product Managers while partnering closely with Engineering and cross-functional leaders to deliver meaningful customer and business outcomes.

This role is accountable for turning company strategy into focused product bets, improving the quality of product decision-making, and ensuring teams consistently deliver high-impact work. We are looking for a product leader with strong judgment, a customer-first mindset, and the ability to operate effectively in a growing, remote-first organization.

Why This Role Exists

As Hubstaff continues to scale and move upmarket, the product surface area, customer needs, and strategic tradeoffs are becoming more complex. This role exists to:

  • Raise the bar on product strategy and execution across multiple product areas

  • Develop strong, outcome-oriented Product Managers

  • Ensure product investment is clearly tied to customer value and business results

  • Help Hubstaff evolve into a more comprehensive operational platform for global teams

What Success Looks Like

Success in this role means:

  • Product Managers operate with clear ownership, strong discovery practices, and high-quality decision-making

  • Product roadmaps are outcome-driven and clearly aligned to company priorities

  • Hubstaff shows measurable improvement in core product metrics such as activation, engagement, retention, and expansion

  • Cross-functional partners view Product as a strategic driver, not just a delivery function

  • The product organization scales smoothly as the company grows and serves more sophisticated customers

Responsibilities
  • Product Strategy & Vision: Help define and execute product strategy aligned with company goals, customer needs, and market opportunities

  • Product Leadership: Lead, coach, and develop a team of Product Managers, setting clear expectations for ownership, judgment, and impact

  • Customer-Centric Decision Making: Ensure teams deeply understand customer problems through discovery, research, and data analysis

  • Roadmap Ownership: Own and evolve product roadmaps that balance near-term impact with long-term strategy

  • Business Outcomes: Drive product decisions tied to growth, retention, adoption, and expansion metrics

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with Engineering, Design, Sales, Marketing, and Customer Success to align execution and priorities

  • Market & Competitive Insight: Monitor industry trends, competitive landscape, and emerging opportunities to inform product direction

Desired Skills & Experience
  • 7+ years of product management experience in B2B SaaS, including ownership of complex products

  • 3+ years of experience leading and developing Product Managers

  • Proven ability to translate company strategy into focused product bets and outcomes

  • Strong product judgment — knowing when to explore, when to commit, and when to say no

  • Hands-on experience working closely with Engineering teams in an Agile environment

  • Data-driven mindset with experience using qualitative and quantitative insights to guide decisions

  • Experience building products for SMB and/or mid-market customers

  • Familiarity with workforce management, productivity, payments, HRIS-adjacent, or platform products is a strong plus

  • Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, high-ownership, remote-first environment

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
