Job Description:

Disney Entertainment and ESPN Product & Technology

Technology is at the heart of Disney’s past, present, and future. Disney Entertainment and ESPN Product & Technology is a global organization of engineers, product developers, designers, technologists, data scientists, and more – all working to build and advance the technological backbone for Disney’s media business globally.

The team marries technology with creativity to build world-class products, enhance storytelling, and drive velocity, innovation, and scalability for our businesses. We are Storytellers and Innovators. Creators and Builders. Entertainers and Engineers. We work with every part of The Walt Disney Company’s media portfolio to advance the technological foundation and consumer media touch points serving millions of people around the world.

Here are a few reasons why we think you’d love working here:

Building the future of Disney’s media: Our Technologists are designing and building the products and platforms that will power our media, advertising, and distribution businesses for years to come.

Reach, Scale & Impact: More than ever, Disney’s technology and products serve as a signature doorway for fans' connections with the company’s brands and stories. Disney+. Hulu. ESPN. ABC. ABC News…and many more. These products and brands – and the unmatched stories, storytellers, and events they carry – matter to millions of people globally.

Innovation: We develop and implement groundbreaking products and techniques that shape industry norms, and solve complex and distinctive technical problems.

Product Management is responsible for driving the overall user experience, feature strategies and concepts, and engagement paradigms for Disney Entertainment & ESPN's global portfolio of consumer-facing streaming and digital products – including Disney+, Hulu, ESPN, ABC, ABC News, Nat Geo, Marvel, and Star Wars.

In this role you'll:

  •  Lead the product strategy and multi-year roadmap for Payments and Fraud across Disney's global streaming businesses (Disney+, Hulu, ESPN) — owning involuntary-churn reduction, payment processing, new payment methods, and fraud prevention.
  • Build, lead, and grow a team of product managers spanning retries and recovery, lifecycle and billing messaging, new payment methods, core processing and routing, and fraud/risk.
  • Champion an experimentation-first, data-driven culture — using large-scale A/B testing, ML models, and deep analytics to lift authorization rates, recover involuntary churn, and grow conversion and signups.
  • Own measurable business outcomes — involuntary churn (bps), incremental operating income, and incremental signups via new payment methods — in close partnership with finance, data science, engineering, legal, and marketing.
  • Serve as Disney's product authority on payments and fraud to senior leadership and external partners, including processors, card networks, issuers, and alternative-payment providers.

Responsibilities and Duties of the Role:

  • Set and own the multi-year Payments & Fraud product strategy and roadmap, aligned to company OKRs — involuntary-churn reduction, incremental operating income, and incremental signups.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of product managers; set goals, allocate capacity, and grow talent and bench strength.
  • Act as a trusted authority in the payments and fraud domain and provide thought leadership across the business and to senior leaders.
  • Drive a rigorous experimentation and measurement culture — prioritize the test pipeline and hold the bar on statistical rigor and fully aged results before booking impact.
  • Partner cross-functionally with engineering, data science, finance, legal, operations, and marketing to deliver the roadmap and negotiate trade-offs across adjacent domains (growth & acquisition, identity, lifecycle messaging, billing).

Basic Qualifications

  • 12+ years of product management experience, including subscription/recurring payments for a major global merchant — ideally in streaming or digital media
  • 3+ years directly managing and developing product managers
  • Bachelor’s degree required or equivalent work experience
  • Deep expertise across the payments ecosystem — processing and routing, authorization optimization, retries and recovery, new and local payment methods, and fraud and risk management
  • Proven track record of driving measurable business outcomes (churn reduction, revenue, conversion) through large-scale experimentation and data-driven decision-making
  • Strong command of statistics and experimentation (hypothesis testing, regression analysis, large-scale A/B testing) and the ability to turn data into a compelling story for senior stakeholders
  • Ability to rigorously prioritize while articulating a product roadmap across business teams and geographies
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and negotiate trade-offs with a diverse set of partners
  • You communicate exceptionally well — from small-group discussions to large-scale presentations, and through strong product memos that drive alignment across multiple teams

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of AI/ML concepts and their application to payments, fraud, and involuntary-churn recovery
  • Experience expanding global and local payment methods and managing processor, network, and issuer relationships
  • Familiarity with the streaming video industry and the value propositions the market leaders offer their customers
  • Experience building and scaling high-performing product teams

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
