POSITION SUMMARY:
The Director, Pricing is responsible for leading the development and execution of pricing strategies that drive sales growth, margin optimization, and customer value across all retail channels. This role partners closely with Merchandising, Marketing, Operations, Finance, and Supply Chain to ensure pricing decisions are data‑driven, competitive, and aligned with customer expectations in a dynamic grocery retail environment.
 
The ideal candidate brings deep experience in retail pricing, strong analytical capabilities, and a proven ability to translate insights into actionable strategies that support profitable growth while maintaining price integrity and competitiveness within each of our operating markets.
 
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Pricing Strategy & Leadership
  • Develop and execute enterprise pricing strategies aligned with merchandising objectives, financial targets, customer perception, and competitive dynamics.
  • Serve as a pricing subject matter expert, providing recommendations and guidance to senior merchandising leadership.
Pricing Optimization & Execution
  • Lead the analysis, design, and implementation of pricing, promotional pricing, and markdown strategies to achieve revenue, margin, and volume goals.
  • Evaluate price elasticity, competitive positioning, and promotional effectiveness across categories and channels.
Data Analytics & Insights
  • Leverage sales, margin, inventory, customer, and market data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities.
  • Translate complex analytical findings into clear, actionable insights for merchandising and leadership teams.
Cross Functional Collaboration
  • Partner closely with Merchandising, Marketing, Operations, Finance, and Supply Chain to ensure pricing strategies are executed effectively at retail.
  • Collaborate with Finance on forecasting, budgeting, and margin planning initiatives.
Forecasting & Planning
  • Support sales and margin forecasting through pricing and promotional insights.
  • Contribute to annual and in season planning processes through data driven pricing recommendations.
Team Leadership & Development
  • Build, develop, and lead a high performing pricing and analytics team.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and analytical rigor.
Technology & Tools
  • Identify opportunities to enhance pricing capabilities through tools, systems, and automation.
  • Partner with IT and analytics teams to improve pricing systems, reporting, and data accessibility.
Performance Monitoring & Governance
  • Establish pricing KPIs and monitor ongoing performance against financial and customer metrics.
  • Ensure pricing compliance with internal policies and applicable state regulatory requirements.
Market & Competitive Analysis
  • Monitor competitor pricing, market trends, and customer behavior to inform pricing adjustments and strategy refinements.
  • Provide timely insights on competitive threats and opportunities within the grocery retail landscape.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, finance, economics, analytics, or a related field.
  • 8--10+ years of progressive experience in retail pricing, merchandising, or analytics, with demonstrated leadership responsibility.
  • Strong experience developing and executing pricing strategies within a grocery or multi‑unit retail environment.
  • Advanced analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data and drive business decisions.
  • Proficiency in pricing and analytics tools (e.g., SQL, Excel, Tableau, Power BI; Python or R preferred).
  • Experience working with retail planning and merchandising systems.
  • Proven leadership, communication, and stakeholder‑management skills.
  • Strategic, results‑oriented mindset with strong business acumen.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, high‑volume retail environment.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish a plus.
