Join ShopMy – Powering the Future of Digital Marketing

ShopMy is transforming e-commerce by building the infrastructure for human-led curation at scale. We help brands run performance-driven creator programs while enabling top creators to monetize their influence and partner directly with the brands they love—driving discovery through trusted tastemakers and authentic recommendations.
ShopMy recently became a unicorn, raising at a $1.5B valuation with backing from Bessemer Venture Partners, Avenir Growth Capital, and Bain Capital Ventures.
At ShopMy, you're building the future of human-led commerce for the world's best brands, tastemakers, and shoppers. You move fast and see immediate impact in your work, alongside accomplished teammates who are driven by helping find the world's best things. If you’re excited to help shape the future of curated commerce at the intersection of technology, culture, and taste, we’d love to meet you.

About the Role:

As our founding PR & Communications hire, you will build and own our earned media function—shaping the stories we tell, the channels we use, and the voices that represent us. This foundational role requires a nuanced media strategy, relying on strong relationships across business, trade, creator, technology, and consumer media.

Reporting to our Head of Marketing and working closely with our founders, you will turn company priorities, data, product developments, and market trends into compelling stories that build brand awareness.

Roles and responsibilities…

  • PR Strategy: Build and lead ShopMy's earned media strategy, both holistically and by channel—targeting relevant media for Brands, Creators, and Shoppers.
  • Story & Channel Development: Identify the right stories, audiences, spokespeople, and channels—from traditional press and podcasts to speaking opportunities and executive social.
  • Media Relations: Bring trusted relationships with influential reporters and editors across business, technology, marketing, retail, fashion, and culture and invest in building our existing relationships.
  • Executive Strategy: Develop thought leadership strategy and platforms, draft talking points and quotes, schedule and prep for interviews and speaking opportunities for founders and executives.
  • Data & Launch Storytelling: Turn proprietary insights, product launches, partnerships, and milestones into repeatable media moments.
  • Rapid Response and Crisis Management: Proactively plan for situations requiring crisis management. In the moment, manage inbound press, timely commentary, and communications around sensitive situations.
  • Operations & Management: Build and scale ShopMy’s PR function, managing relationships with external PR agencies and leading the hiring of junior talent as necessary.

Your qualifications…

  • Relevant Experience: 8-10+ years in communications, with a specialty in earned media, ideally across agency and in-house roles.
  • Media Relationships: Strong relationships in at least two of these areas: business and trade, creator and technology, or consumer and lifestyle.
  • Editorial Judgment: A strong instinct for what makes a story timely, relevant, and credible.
  • Brand Judgment & Taste: Strong instincts for whether a story is not only timely and relevant, but right for our brand, reflecting what we stand for and the level of taste and cultural credibility we want to be known for.
  • Writing Excellence: An exceptional writer across pitches, executive briefs, quotes, bylines, and social content.
  • Strategic Operator: Able to set strategy while remaining hands-on with pitching, writing, and relationship development.
  • Builder Mindset: Comfortable advising senior leaders and building a communications function from the ground up.
  • Industry Fluency: Experience in technology, fashion, beauty, retail, performance marketing, or the creator economy.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
