As Director of Policy, you will shape ON.energy's grid and regulatory strategy, engaging with utilities and policymakers to advocate for innovative solutions and ensure alignment with energy policy.
The summary above was generated by AI

ON.energy is building the power infrastructure that makes the AI era possible. As AI demand surges past what the grid and traditional data centers can support, ON.energy provides a new class of power technology proven at gigawatt scale and trusted by the world’s leading cloud and AI companies. Our systems are already deployed across 2.5 GW of hyper-scale campuses, validated by top U.S. national labs, and certified for grid-safe operation by major utilities. With real products in the field, we’re scaling faster than the grid can, transforming power from a bottleneck into a competitive advantage for the companies building the future.

The Opportunity

As Director of Policy, you will define and execute ON.energy’s grid and regulatory strategy at a time when large load growth, interconnection reform, and reliability standards are being rewritten in real time.

This role sits at the intersection of policy strategy, regulatory process and power engineering. At its core, it is an education/advocacy role. You will interact with ISOs, RTOs, utilities, regulators, and policymakers to enable them to understand how On.energy's technology uniquely supports grid reliability and power quality, and how large, flexible loads can be integrated responsibly.

You will partner with the ON.energy COO, CTO, Sales, and CEO to define our market and policy strategy and own execution across ISO territories. Your mandate is to proactively educate and advocate for the wholesale electric market policies, shape technical narratives, and ensure ON.energy is correctly understood in the rooms where energy polict is set.

What You’ll Do

Educate the Grid

  • Serve as ON.energy’s policy voice in ISO/RTO stakeholder processes, technical committees, and tariff proceedings.
  • Clearly explain how energy policy should consider and value that On.energy's MV UPS addresses grid challenges such as short circuit ratios, voltage and frequency ride-through, reactive power support, and grid-forming vs. grid-following controls.
  • Develop technical briefs, presentations, and comment letters that make complex engineering concepts accessible to regulators and policymakers.

Shape the Technical Narrative

  • Lead policy engagement for On.energy in regulatory rulemaking and tariff stakeholder proceedings related to large load interconnection, inverter-based resource standards, voltage ride-through, and system strength.
  • Proactively identify upcoming NERC, FERC, ISO, and state rulemakings that affect large load integration and help frame the conversation early.
  • Partner with the CTO to ensure our product capabilities are accurately represented in planning studies and regulatory discussions.

Strategy & Execution

  • Own ON.energy’s ISO/RTO engagement strategy across key markets (e.g., ERCOT, PJM, MISO, SPP).
  • Embed regulatory and grid requirements early in engineering design and customer contracting.
  • Identify regulatory risks early and resolve them before they slow deployment.

Industry Leadership

  • Build trusted relationships with ISO leadership, FERC staff, state regulators, and utility engineering teams.
  • Participate in technical working groups and conferences to elevate us as a credible, policy-first voice on large load integration.

What We’re Looking For

  • 3-5 years of energy policy advocacy experience.
  • Background in power systems engineering, grid operations, or transmission planning.
  • Direct experience with ISO/RTO stakeholder proceedings and tariff development.
  • Ability to translate technical detail into clear, persuasive communication for non-engineering audiences.
  • High ownership, sound judgment, and comfort operating in ambiguity.
  • Graduate degree in EE or Energy Policy preferred.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
