Director, Strategic Planning

Golin is looking for a strategist who gets creators and gets culture.

You understand that creators don't just make content. They build worlds, establish identities, and push the boundaries of what tools can do. You know the difference between someone who uses creative software and someone who lives inside it. And you know how to turn that understanding into strategy that actually resonates.

This role sits at the center of one of the most dynamic spaces in culture right now: the creator economy. You'll help shape how a brand that powers human creativity shows up in a world where everyone has something to make and AI trying to help make it with them.

You'll report to a Head of Planning and work across creative, social, media, analytics, and account teams. You're not just writing briefs. You're building the strategic foundation for work that celebrates what it means to create.

What You Bring

  • 7–10 years of strategic planning experience, ideally with exposure to creative tools, tech, or creator-focused brands
  • A genuine fluency in creator culture: you know the platforms, the communities, the mindsets, and the moment we're in
  • The ability to speak to creators, not at them: you understand their motivations, their frustrations, and what makes them feel seen
  • Research chops across social listening, creator community analysis, competitive audits, and cultural trends mining
  • The rare skill of turning complexity into clarity: sharp briefs, compelling narratives, presentations that don't need explaining
  • An inclusive lens: creativity looks different across disciplines, backgrounds, and platforms, and your strategy reflects that
  • Confidence in the room: you can lead a client session, hold the strategic thread, and make people feel like the work is going somewhere
  • Comfort with ambiguity and speed: multiple workstreams, evolving briefs, high creative stakes

What You'll Do

  • Own account strategy for a brand that sits at the intersection of technology and human expression
  • Write creative briefs that spark something - not just briefs that check boxes
  • Translate creator culture insights into brand strategy that feels authentic, not appropriated
  • Build thought leadership and IP that establishes Golin's voice in the creator economy conversation
  • Get real visibility with senior leadership on both the agency and client side
  • Develop a point of view on what it means for brands to champion creativity in an AI-driven world

If you believe creativity is one of the most powerful forces in culture — and you know how to build strategy around that belief — we want to meet you.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
