What we need 

The Director of Operations is a driven leader providing operational oversight aligned while developing a versatile and collaborative team which drives strong customer and process relationships at our customer sites. We are looking for the Director of Operations to help lead multiple sites towards operational goals. The Director of Operations will have strong interpersonal skills, have a presence and a voice with our customers, and an unmatched desire to provide “world class” service to the distribution network.  

 

What we do 

The Director of Operations is part of the Customer Operations organization which is responsible for leading the day-to-day operations of Symbotic’s robotic material handling system. The Customer Operations organization drives operational excellence by engaging and partnering with our onsite customers to drive best-in-class quality, safety and system performance.   

 

What you’ll do 

  • Validate Warehouse capacity planning in alignment with Sales, Inventory, Operations Planning teams. 

  • Manage customer site operations to achieve the Key Performance Indicators (KPI) targets through action plans and regular reviews. 

  • Analyze and planning of workload, for allocation of resources to drive assessment of actual productivity in relation to benchmarks. 

  • Build strong local logistics competencies in the local team to drive innovation and agility 

  • Overall supervision of personnel including staffing, evaluations, recruitment, training, payroll, and related matters. 

  • Ensure that all work performed under his/her supervision is done in a timely and cost-effective manner according to the applicable codes. 

  • Establish and implement policies and procedures for facilities operations, including equipment replacement, quality assurance, and safety. 

  • Ensure that all facilities under his/her responsibility are safe and comply with all federal, state, and local laws. 

  • Special projects and related duties as requested. 

 

What you’ll need 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Management or equivalent, MBA preferred 

  • Minimum of 10 Years of progressive experience in Operations, Supply Chain and Logistics 

  • Minimum 7 years’ experience in involvement with automated systems and/or distribution and material handling systems; preferred. 

  • Warehouse experience utilizing digital technologies and innovation. 

  • Strong people leadership and talent developer experience. 

  • Experience in managing multiple projects, high level scheduling managing within budget. 

  • Demonstrated proficiency in managing projects across broad internal (business leadership, sales/solutions, hardware and software engineering, etc.) & external stakeholders (client leadership, general contractors, architects, subcontractors). 

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. 

 

Our Environment 

  • Remote, field-based position.   

  • Travel is required 50% to 75% of the time. Employee must have a valid driver’s license and the ability to drive and/or fly to client and other customer locations. 

  • The employee is responsible for owning a credit card and managing expenses personally to be reimbursed on a bi-weekly basis. 

  • Our headquarters is in Wilmington, MA. The person taking this position will be required to perform work at our customer installation locations for extended periods of time where equipment is installed and ready for commissioning(Commissioning Team) 

  • The employee is frequently required to walk and reach with hands and arms  

  • The employee is routinely required to work at heights of up to 45 feet and within restrictive areas of 24 inches. to stand; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl  

  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds  

  • Must comply with all safety requirements and protocols, including without limitation Lock out tag out safety protocols and fall protection safety protocols.  

  • Approximately 75% of time will be spent on a construction site with PPE required (hard hat, safety vest, steel toes, eyeglasses, ear protection, fall protection (e.g., safety harness)  

  • There will be steep stairs to climb into the structure You may be required to routinely walk up and down stairs to navigate the automation structure. 

  • You will regularly be near railings that are high off the ground  

  • Subject to environmental conditions, protection from weather conditions but not necessarily temperature changes. Must be capable of working in temperatures ranging from 105° to 32° Fahrenheit.
