The Director of Nursing oversees health services, assists physicians, ensures compliance with regulations, and manages nursing staff, emphasizing client care and safety.
Position Summary
Under the direction and general supervision of the Executive
Mental Health Administrator, the Director of Nursing is responsible to assist
the attending Physician with the evaluation and psychiatric treatment of all
clients.
This position oversees the administration of health and
wellness services in accordance with current Federal, State, and Local
standards, guidelines and regulations, as well as company policies and
procedures.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Runs
groups on topic of health and wellness.
- Performs
as Infection Control Officer
- Performs
duties as Infection Control Officer.
- Models
a positive and professional image that emulates the organization's mission
and encourages a spirit of cooperation with co-workers. Provides
assistance to co-workers and promotes teamwork by sharing information
useful to achieving desired results.
- Assists
the attending Psychiatrist with the evaluation and psychiatric treatment
of all clients.
- Ensures
that all clients are treated fairly, with kindness, dignity, and respect,
and their rights are protected at all times.
- Respects
and upholds all clients’ personal and property rights whenever carrying
out duties.
- Develops
short and long range planning for nursing function.
- Ensures
that nursing interventions meet personal, physical and cognitive needs of
each client as well as maximize his/her self-care capacities, identity,
independence, choice and opportunity for social interaction.
- Coordinates
interdisciplinary client care management efforts
- Ensures
a safe and sanitary environment for clients, employees and visitors via
oversight of safety and maintenance functions.
- Is
responsible for ensuring interventions are administered appropriately by
subordinates, consults with subordinates to ensure that medications and
supplies are stored and controlled properly, and that there is an adequate
stock level of medications, medical supplies, equipment etc. on premises
at all times.
- Oversees
all unusual occurrences and assists Program Director in reporting
incidents to appropriate agency.
- Supervises
LVN/LPN to ensure that all client condition changes are handled promptly
and documentation is done on a timely basis.
- Ensures
that all personnel involved in providing care to client are aware of
client’s care plan and reviews LVN/LPN notes to determine if care plan is
being followed.
- Reviews
LVN/LPN notes and documentation to ensure completeness and accuracy of
client assessments, including information on nursing care provided,
client’s response to care, and issues for follow-up.
- Reports
the following in accordance with established facility procedures and
regulatory standards: accidents and incidents; client grievances,
complaints, allegations of client abuse and/or misappropriation of client
property; occupational exposure to blood, body fluids, infectious
materials, and hazardous chemicals; concerns and suspected incidences of
non-compliance including but not limited to hazardous conditions and
equipment.
