At Relativity Space, we’re building rockets to serve today’s needs and tomorrow’s breakthroughs. Our Terran R vehicle will deliver customer payloads to orbit, meeting the growing demand for launch capacity. But that’s just the start. Achieving commercial success with Terran R will unlock new opportunities to advance science, exploration, and innovation, pioneering progress that reaches beyond the known.

Joining Relativity means becoming part of something where autonomy, ownership, and impact exist at every level. Here, you're not just executing tasks; you're solving problems that haven’t been solved before, helping develop a rocket, a factory, and a business from the ground up. Whether you’re in propulsion, manufacturing, software, avionics, or a corporate function, you’ll collaborate across teams, shape decisions, and see your work come to life in record time. Relativity is a place where creativity and technical rigor go hand in hand, and your voice will help define the stories we’re writing together. Now is a unique moment in time where it’s early enough to leave your mark on the product, the process, and the culture, but far enough along that Terran R is tangible and picking up momentum. The most meaningful work of your career is waiting. Join us.

About the Team:

The Materials Management team ensures the right material is in the right place at the right time to enable the production and build of Terran R, owning the full lifecycle of material flow from planning and inventory to warehousing, shipping, and receiving. Operating at the intersection of supply chain and production, the team translates build plans into executable material strategies, resolving shortages in real time and optimizing for speed, accuracy, and cost. As the company scales, Materials Management plays a critical role in building the systems, processes, and infrastructure needed to support higher production rates, enabling consistent build velocity and operational excellence across the factory and test environments.

About the Role:

The Director of Materials Management will lead the strategy, execution, and continuous evolution of Relativity’s materials operations as Terran R transitions from development into full-rate production. This role is responsible for building a scalable operating model—spanning organization design, systems, and physical infrastructure—that enables efficient, high-throughput manufacturing. As a senior leader, you will drive cross-functional alignment, establish operational rigor through metrics and process discipline, and ensure materials operations can keep pace with ambitious production targets in a dynamic, fast-growing environment.

  • Own and scale core materials management functions, including Shipping & Receiving, Inventory Management, and Logistics, establishing the foundation for how hardware flows through the factory
  • Design and optimize factory layout for receiving, warehousing, and material movement to maximize efficiency and throughput
  • Build and lead a high-performing, scalable organization; define org structure, hire top talent, and develop leaders
  • Establish and drive key performance metrics such as dock-to-stock time, inventory accuracy, and on-time material delivery
  • Architect the materials management strategy, including supply chain network design, business processes, and integration with Relativity’s digital ecosystem (ERP, MES, PLM, QMS)
  • Partner cross-functionally with Engineering, Manufacturing, Integration, Production, Supply Chain, and Finance to align material readiness with production goals
  • Lead early-stage procurement and planning efforts, including BOM development, sourcing strategy, supplier evaluation, and risk management
  • Define and execute the long-term roadmap for materials management, balancing strategic vision with day-to-day operational excellence

About You:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Operations, Business, Finance, or a related field
  • 8+ years of experience in operations, materials, or supply chain within a high-mix manufacturing environment
  • 6+ years of experience leading and developing teams in a production setting
  • Proven experience designing and implementing warehousing systems, processes, and layouts
  • Strong track record partnering with manufacturing and production teams in fast-paced environments
  • Experience with process development, inventory management systems, and warehouse design
  • Working knowledge of enterprise systems such as ERP, MES, PLM, and QMS
  • Highly organized, self-directed, and able to bring structure and clarity to ambiguous environments
  • Demonstrated ability to set, track, and improve operational performance metrics

Nice to haves but not required:

  • Experience supporting new product introduction (NPI) of complex hardware into manufacturing and production, ideally in aerospace or similarly demanding industries

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
