Job Overview 

The Director, MarTech Engineering is responsible for leading engineering teams and programs that power Marriott’s Cobrand and Digital Merchandising Experience (DME) capabilities across a variety of channels to include web, mobile, and Guest Room Technology. 

This role oversees engineers working on critical MarTech platforms that enable personalization, digital merchandising, and datadriven customer experiences at scale. The Director will partner closely with Product, MarTech, and Platform leaders to evolve our nextgeneration data layer (ACDL), Dynamic Content Assembly (DCA), and personalization capabilities, while ensuring solutions are performant, scalable, and aligned with longterm digital platform strategy.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Lead and manage engineering teams supporting Cobrand and Digital Merchandising Experience (DME) initiatives. 

  • Own delivery and execution of MarTech engineering programs across web and mobile platforms. 

  • Provide technical leadership for the evolution of the data layer, digital content assembly, and personalization architecture. 

  • Partner with Product, MarTech, and Platform stakeholders to translate business goals into scalable technical solutions. 

  • Ensure MarTech implementations are performant, reliable, and aligned with platform standards and architectural direction. 

  • Drive consistency, reuse, and simplification across MarTech patterns and integrations. 

  • Mentor engineers, fostering strong technical judgment and ownership. 

  • Influence outcomes across teams without direct ownership by setting clear direction, standards, and expectations. 

Required: 

  • 7+ years’ experience in software design and development with expert level expertise in multiple programming languages like JavaScript, TypeScript, NodeJS. 

  • 5+ years hands-on experience with application development tools and content management systems like Adobe Experience Manager 

  • Experience in building enterprise scale web applications using micro front-end architecture 

  • Experience with modern web technologies and techniques such as HTML5, CSS3, CSS frameworks, CSS pre-processors, ES6, JavaScript build tools 

  • Experience in developing software using Front-end libraries/frameworks - primarily React 

  • Experience in customizing webpack configurations and writing custom plugins to bundle code as UMD bundle for isomorphic consumption 

  • Strong knowledge in SEO, WCAG compliance, performance optimization techniques 

  • Experience in applying software engineering best practices, setting front-end software and UX implementation standards 

  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience/certification 

Preferred: 

  • Experience in waterfall and/or agile software methodologies 

  • Experience with DevOps tools such as Git, JIRA, Jenkins, Dynatrace 

  • Demonstrated UI implementation experience, and with a portfolio of work that demonstrates detailed attention to typography, color, imagery, motion, and graphic elements 

  • Experience in developing custom reusable components using Atomic Design 

  • Experience in integrating Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) with react components in both headful and 
    headless manner 

  • Experience in using Jest, Jasmine, Mocha, and Junit with Mockito 

  • Experience of working in multi repository code base 

  • Experience in writing deployment configurations 

  • Excellent knowledge of working with dynamic data using services (e.g., JSON, XML, REST APIs etc) 

  • Relevant technology certifications 

  • Experience with 3rd Party SDK integrations such as Google Maps and other open source libraries 

  • Experience with Play / Akka frameworks or Spring Boot 

  • Working knowledge and experience of SOA using RESTful web services and API platform integrations 

  • Understanding of latest trends in web technologies, 

  • Demonstrated understanding of industry trends, development products and environments as well as best practices for web application design and development 

  • Demonstrated ability to anticipate future software engineering opportunities 

  • Technology leadership experience in a sourced environment 

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to articulate complex technical ideas in easy to understand business terms 

  • Ability to accomplish results through others, particularly by establishing relationships, effective controls and leading in a managed service environment
