Director of Marketing

Zen Media, Remote

About Zen Media:

Zen Media is a digital-first marketing and PR agency delivering AI-powered demand generation, brand visibility, and full-funnel performance for B2B and B2C companies. From global tech to next-gen manufacturing to consumer health brands, we help our clients win in a world where attention is earned—and results are expected. Zen Media is one of the portfolio agencies managed by the agency leadership team. Optimum7 is an example of a sister company within the portfolio that focuses on bottom-of-funnel and conversion expertise within the Zen Media Portfolio group of agencies.

Role Overview:

We’re hiring an Associate Director / Director of Marketing to lead the orchestration of high-performing, cross-functional marketing campaigns for B2B and B2C clients. This is a portfolio leading client-facing role for a master facilitator—someone who knows how to bring subject matter experts (SMEs), creative leads, and execution teams into sync across channels like PR, social, SEO, paid, and content.

You're not expected to be the expert in every function—you're expected to confidently facilitate alignment among senior-level SMEs (15+ years in PR, 20+ years in brand, etc.) and ensure that each campaign moves forward with clarity, pace, and purpose based on the client's goals, expectations, and set timeline.

This role is ideal for a leader who can balance confidence with humility—someone who can drive performance without ego, while being 100% accountable for the outcomes of the campaigns and the health of the client portfolio.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Client & Campaign Leadership:
    • Serve as the strategic and operational lead for a portfolio of 4–6 enterprise-level B2B/B2C active clients concurrently with active campaigns per month.
    • Translate client objectives into clear, sequenced campaigns across multiple marketing functions.
    • Facilitate collaboration across departments—PR, social, editorial, paid, and SEO—while pulling in SME expertise where needed.
    • Act as the face of campaign performance to client executives; communicate impact clearly to both non-marketing CEOs and tactical CMOs/VPs.
    • Ensure due dates are met, clear goals and objectives, within scope, and on time based on expectations already set with the client.
  • Team Management & Cross-Functional Oversight:
    • Manage a team of 1–2 project managers or campaign specialists, delegating effectively while maintaining quality and accountability across accounts. These are direct reports.
    • Own the workflow, planning cadence, and project timelines using tools like ClickUp or Monday.com.
    • Maintain detailed oversight of campaign calendars, dependencies, and executional risks.
  • Performance & Strategic Intelligence:
    • Lead performance storytelling—translating outcomes into insights for clients.
    • Monitor top and mid-funnel metrics (brand, PR, traffic, engagement) and connect them to pipeline or revenue signals where possible.
    • Use AI-driven insights, research tools, and persona data to inform messaging, targeting, and creative approaches.

What Success Looks Like:

  • Campaigns are delivered on time, on brand, and on brief—with SME input fully leveraged.
  • Clients are confident in the strategy and execution health of their campaigns and renew or expand with Zen Media.
  • Internal teams feel organized, empowered, and clear on next steps across all deliverables.
  • You consistently bridge the gap between strategic vision and tactical execution.
  • Portfolio is within the scope of the projects, on-time campaign delivery weekly, and the KPI campaign performance is positive.
  • You have healthy KPIs that include the following:
  • 0 overdue tasks and projects inside your portfolio weekly
  • 100% tracked, on time, and fully delivered contract deliverables to the client monthly
  • Scope and resource utilization hours within 10% variance monthly
  • 80% of client KPIs hit or exceeded.
  • Examples include 20% growth in social following, engagement rate, website traffic, lead generation or form qualification, ROAS, or similar.
  • 100% project management compliance inside ClickUp on your accounts.

Required Experience & Skills:

  • 10+ years of total marketing experience with at least 4+ years owning as the strategic lead multi-functional campaigns (PR, social, content) for B2B enterprise brands.
  • Proven leadership in managing cross-functional marketing campaigns with specialists who may be more senior or more experienced in their verticals.
  • Experience managing multiple clients or internal business units in a fast-paced agency or consultancy setting.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills—able to switch between boardroom strategy and execution detail.
  • Experience managing 1–2 team members in a supervisory or team lead capacity.
  • Agency or portfolio brand experience required.

Preferred Skills:

  • Deep understanding of B2B buyer personas and behavioral triggers. You should be obsessed with audience psychology—tools and tactics follow from that.
  • Familiarity with AI Gen Search and its impact on brand discoverability.
  • Experience with tools like Semrush, GA, ClickUp, Monday, AI, AI Agents, and Slack.
  • Experience leading go-to-market campaigns, product launches, or event-based activations.
  • Ability to adapt messaging and strategy for both top-of-funnel and bottom-of-funnel goals, with heavier emphasis on ToF visibility alongside SMEs.

Who You Are:

  • A strategic operator who thrives on clarity, collaboration, and accountability.
  • A confident facilitator who can lead a room of seasoned professionals without ego. You hold a high standard of agenda preparation and screen sharing 100% of the time on any meeting.
  • A client whisperer who knows how to speak “executive” and “tactical” in the same conversation.
  • A campaign architect who believes great marketing starts—and ends—with a deep understanding of the audience.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
