About Homeboy Industries
Homeboy Industries is the largest and most successful gang-intervention, reentry, and rehabilitation organization in the world. For more than three decades, Homeboy has worked to transform lives by providing formerly incarcerated and gang-involved individuals with comprehensive support—including employment, education, housing, healing services, and a community of kinship—so they can build a future grounded in dignity, purpose, and belonging.
As Homeboy continues its significant growth—expanding its campus, housing initiatives, social enterprises, arts programming, youth reentry efforts, and global advocacy—the organization is seeking a senior marketing leader to steward and scale its brand, storytelling, and growth strategy.

Position Overview
Homeboy Industries is seeking a Director of Marketing & Brand Strategy to serve as the organization’s senior leader for brand, marketing, and growth. This is a high-impact, highly visible role responsible for translating Homeboy’s mission, values, and lived experience into a cohesive, data-informed brand and marketing strategy that drives earned revenue, philanthropic growth, and long-term organizational sustainability.
Reporting to the co-CEOs and working closely with the Founder and Executive Team, the Director will act as a strategic thought partner, ensuring that marketing is fully integrated into Homeboy’s social enterprise strategy, fundraising efforts, capital campaigns, and public presence.
This role goes beyond storytelling and execution. The Director of Marketing & Brand Strategy is accountable for building systems, setting priorities, and aligning teams so that brand strategy directly advances mission impact and financial performance.

Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Growth

  • Serve as Homeboy’s senior brand and growth strategist, aligning marketing, communications, earned revenue, and fundraising into a unified growth platform.
  • Develop and lead multi-year marketing strategies that support organizational priorities including social enterprises, comprehensive campaigns, campus expansion, housing, arts initiatives, and global advocacy.
  • Partner with the Executive Team to prioritize marketing investments, ensuring resources are aligned with highest-impact opportunities.
  • Translate organizational strategy into clear go-to-market plans, positioning frameworks, and audience strategies.

Brand Stewardship & Storytelling

  • Serve as the steward of the Homeboy brand, ensuring consistency, integrity, and excellence across all platforms and touchpoints.
  • Lead ethical, dignity-centered storytelling practices that honor lived experience and reflect Homeboy’s values of kinship, healing, and justice.
  • Oversee development of brand architecture, messaging frameworks, and narrative strategies that resonate across diverse audiences.

Revenue, Fundraising & Social Enterprise Integration

  • Drive marketing strategies that directly support earned revenue growth across Homeboy’s social enterprises, including e-commerce and digital sales initiatives.
  • Partner with Development to design and execute integrated donor journeys, campaign strategies, and brand-driven fundraising initiatives.
  • Support capital and comprehensive campaigns through audience segmentation, narrative development, and strategic communications.

Digital, Platform & Analytics Leadership

  • Oversee Homeboy’s digital ecosystem, including website strategy, social platforms, CRM integration, and marketing automation.
  • Build a data-informed marketing function that leverages analytics, audience insights, and performance measurement to guide decision-making.
  • Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and regularly report on marketing effectiveness, ROI, and growth metrics to executive leadership.

Team & Organizational Leadership

  • Build, lead, and mentor a high-performing marketing team spanning brand, content, digital, analytics, and project management.
  • Oversee partnerships with creative agencies, consultants, and vendors to ensure quality, alignment, and efficiency.
  • Strengthen internal systems, workflows, and planning processes, including annual calendars and departmental budgets.
  • Foster collaboration across departments, including Development, Social Enterprises, Programs, and Communications.

Public Presence & Organizational Engagement

  • Support and participate in major organizational events, including the annual gala, community events, and staff convenings.
  • Represent Homeboy Industries externally as needed, helping to build strategic partnerships and expand brand reach.
  • Participate actively in leadership, planning, and budget meetings across the organization.
Qualifications
  • 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in marketing, brand strategy, or growth roles, with responsibility for organization-wide strategy.
  • Demonstrated success connecting brand and marketing strategies to revenue growth, fundraising outcomes, and long-term organizational impact.
  • Experience working across both nonprofit and for-profit or social enterprise environments strongly preferred.
  • Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage agency and consultant partners.
  • Strong editorial judgment and storytelling expertise, with experience translating complex missions into compelling narratives.
  • Deep understanding of digital marketing, audience segmentation, analytics, and performance measurement.
  • Track record of acting as a strategic partner to senior leadership and boards.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree (MBA or Master’s) preferred or equivalent experience.
  • Strong alignment with Homeboy Industries’ mission and a demonstrated commitment to social justice, equity, and human dignity.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
