Role:
As the Director of Lifecycle Marketing, you will own the end-to-end strategy, execution, and optimization of lifecycle, retention, and CRM initiatives across Backstage, Mandy, and StarNow. This role is highly hands-on and technical, requiring deep knowledge of email platforms, data flows, segmentation, and performance measurement. You’ll build sophisticated multi-touch journeys that drive activation, repeat engagement, subscription conversion, churn prevention, and referral growth. You’ll also directly operate the systems yourself—raising the bar on personalization, experimentation, messaging quality, and deliverability.
This is a high-impact leadership role responsible for measurable revenue outcomes and for scaling best-in-class lifecycle programs across multiple brands.

What you will do

  • Build and optimize personalized journeys for sign-up to subscription activation, onboarding, upsell, churn prevention, and winback.

  • Operate HubSpot hands on, including segmentation, templating, QA, send and delivery governance

  • Define lifecycle stages and triggers in Amplitude and measure impact by cohort

  • Use Hightouch to sync product and behavioral data to messaging platforms

  • Define list of A/B tests on subject lines, templates, offers, and send times with clear learning agendas and hypotheses

  • Improve deliverability with list health, warmup plans, DMARC/SPF/DKIM, and audit suppression rules with the team.

  • Drive referral and incentive programs using Justuno and Tremendous, including offer tests and break-even math

  • Report weekly on activation rate, retention, reactivation, opt-out rate, and revenue contribution.

  • Partner with product for lifecycle-driven in-app moments and with brand/content team for message and creative

  • Document processes and train teammates to ensure repeatable wins

What you have

  • 7+ years in lifecycle or CRM marketing with ownership of revenue outcomes

  • Expert-level experience in HubSpot or similar ESP at scale, including complex segmentation and templating.

  • Strong analytics skills in Amplitude and Looker, with comfort in cohort analysis and incrementality

  • Experience in working with data teams to model warehouse data for email personalization

  • Working knowledge of data flows and audience sync via Hightouch or similar CDP

  • Proven results improving retention, conversion, and reactivation through disciplined testing

  • Familiarity with HTML, CSS, Handlebars, Liquid, and dynamic email rendering.

  • Deliverability expertise and hands-on list hygiene experience

  • Excellent writing and editing skills for email and in-product copy

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
