Job Description

Public Storage is expanding the lending platform and is seeking a hands-on, highly driven Business Development Director with commercial mortgage originations experience and an entrepreneurial attitude to help drive growth. This role will report directly to the VP of Lending.

While this role currently has no direct reports, strong leadership skills are essential to influence stakeholders and position the individual for future growth opportunities within the organization.

Main Responsibilities

  • Accountable for loan origination activity, including sourcing, business development, negotiations, underwriting, closing and servicing a new book of commercial mortgage loans.
  • Drive the loan growth and profitability of Public Storage’s lending program.
  • Act as the subject matter expert and collaborate with leadership on new initiatives, products and services.
  • Oversee marketing programs supporting initiative. 

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of leadership experience in commercial real estate underwriting and lending.
  • Deep and broad relationships within commercial real estate including brokers, lenders, borrowers, owners, investment managers and developers.
  • Demonstrated competency in all aspects of investment origination, evaluation, and execution including:
    • Conducting research and generating investment ideas
    • Conducting financial, operational, structural, and market due diligence
    • Analyzing risks and structuring to mitigate risks while optimizing for legal, capital, regulatory, rating agency, and accounting considerations
    • Negotiating deal terms and legal documentation
    • Managing investments post-closing
  •  Demonstrated communication skills to be used cross-functionally, with excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal capabilities.
  • Ability to demonstrate effective leadership in ambiguous and frequently changing situations.
  • Ability successfully direct and lead external and internal partners.
  • Team player, as this person will be influencing the group indirectly and working heavily with individuals throughout the organization.
  • Strong ability to build and lead teams.
  • Ability to make recommendations, gain buy-in and lead projects to improve the processes and efficiencies of a business team.
  • The ideal candidate should have an established network of contacts within the self-storage industry.
  • Ability to draw on existing relationships and establish new ones to build and maintain strong business relationships.
  • Prior experience is preferred; however candidates who possess a strong aptitude for building relationships will be considered.

Additional Information

Base Rate: $150K-220K

Compensation may vary outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies and experience, and location. Base pay is one part of our total awards approach to compensation which is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses or incentives.
