ABOUT HEAVISIDE INDUSTRIES

Heaviside Industries builds multi-domain autonomous precision munitions for U.S. and allied special operations and conventional forces. While modern warfare has rapidly evolved with the proliferation of unmanned systems, hyper-precise munitions in contested environments are the future of the battlefield. Economical precision strike capabilities are critical to U.S. and allied war efforts, enabling successful defeat of enemy military assets and infrastructure. Heaviside builds precision munitions designed to operate in GPS-denied and spectrum-jammed battlefields—where traditional systems degrade or fail—without inflated prices or sacrifice to performance.

All engineering and manufacturing is conducted in-house in Heaviside’s Los Angeles, CA headquarters and Oslo, Norway office.

Heaviside is backed by Interlagos, Menlo Ventures, Flume Ventures, Cantos, Anorak Ventures, and Ravelin Ventures.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Build and lead the IT team, including hiring, mentoring, and managing IT support staff as the company scales.

  • Architect, operate, and harden secure enterprise networks (firewalls, segmentation, VPN, wireless) appropriate for an export-controlled defense manufacturer, spanning office, lab, and manufacturing environments.

  • Drive compliance with NIST SP 800-171 and CMMC requirements for handling Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI), including gap assessments, SSP/POA&M ownership, and audit readiness, in partnership with Security and Legal.

  • Administer the Microsoft 365 / Entra ID environment: identity and access management, conditional access, licensing, and account lifecycle from onboarding through offboarding.

  • Own mobile device management end to end—enrollment, configuration, patching, and compliance—keeping every endpoint secure across both sites.

  • Plan and execute IT infrastructure for facility buildouts, manufacturing floor systems, lab and test networks, and conference/AV environments.

  • Establish and maintain IT policies, disaster recovery and backup strategy, and incident response procedures.

  • Manage IT vendors, contracts, procurement, budget, and hardware/software asset lifecycle.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • 8+ years of progressive IT experience, including 3+ years leading an IT function or team.

  • Deep expertise with Microsoft 365, Entra ID / Azure AD, and modern MDM platforms (Intune, Jamf, or similar).

  • Hands-on experience designing and operating enterprise networking—firewalls, VLANs, VPN, and wireless (Meraki, Cisco, Palo Alto, or similar).

  • Working knowledge of NIST SP 800-171, CMMC, and CUI handling requirements in a defense, aerospace, or other export-controlled environment.

  • Experience supporting engineering and manufacturing environments, including CAD/EDA workstations, lab equipment, and shop-floor systems.

  • A builder's mentality: comfortable being hands-on-keyboard today while designing the systems, policies, and team the company will need at 200+ people.

  • Excellent communication skills and the judgment to balance security, compliance, and engineering velocity.

  • [BONUS] CISSP, CISM, Security+, or similar security certification.

  • [BONUS] Experience achieving CMMC Level 2 certification or passing a DIBCAC / NIST 800-171 assessment.

  • [BONUS] Experience with classified information systems or facility clearance (FCL) environments.

  • [BONUS] Scripting and automation experience (PowerShell, Bash, Python).

  • U.S. Person as defined by ITAR (22 CFR §120.62).

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
