We’re looking for a Director of Internal Communications to lead the strategy, systems, and storytelling that keep Virta aligned as we scale beyond 1,000 employees and advance toward IPO readiness. In this role, you’ll own company-wide internal messaging, support executive and cross-functional communications, and build campaigns that connect employees to our mission and to each other. You’ll play a critical role in reinforcing our culture, enabling clarity during change, and ensuring that every employee understands where we’re going, how we’ll get there, and why it matters—especially as we navigate the complexity of IPO preparedness.

Key Responsibilities
  • Strategic Comms Planning: Develop and execute an internal communications strategy that supports organizational priorities and readiness for complex, high-impact milestones as the company scales.

  • Executive Enablement: Partner with the CEO, C-suite, and senior leaders to craft clear, consistent messaging for all-company updates, key initiatives, and sensitive change management.

  • Milestone & High-Sensitivity Comms: Lead employee communications for major company milestones and high-sensitivity initiatives, ensuring teams are informed, aligned, and confident in what’s ahead.

  • Change & Culture Comms: Design and deliver communications that support cross-functional changes, such as org design, process shifts, and tool rollouts, while reinforcing our values and desired culture; also lead comms for internal events including retreats, offsites, DEI gatherings, hackathons, and employee interest groups.

  • Regulatory Alignment: Partner with Legal and Finance to ensure internal messaging is aligned with SEC guidelines and disclosure requirements during IPO preparation and beyond.

  • Channel Management & Cadence: Own the rhythm of all-hands meetings, executive Q&As, internal newsletters, Slack channels, Notion hubs, and other touchpoints to maintain a consistent drumbeat of communication.

  • Manager Enablement: Equip people leaders with templates, talking points, and toolkits to cascade important updates effectively and empathetically.

  • Team & Voice Amplification: Help create systems and campaigns that elevate employee voices, celebrate team and cross-functional wins, and strengthen team identity across the organization.

  • Feedback Loops: Design and lead feedback mechanisms to understand employee sentiment, measure clarity and resonance of key messages, and continuously refine internal communications for greater impact.

First 90 Days
  • Establish a scalable comms framework that includes cadence, channels, ownership, and voice; audit existing channels, cadences, and message quality

  • Partner with Legal, Finance, and HR to establish messaging guardrails and pilot sensitive, business-critical communications, supporting leadership in delivering aligned and compliant messages

  • Create a comms toolkit for managers to support consistent message cascades

  • Launch updated internal communications rhythm (e.g., revamped All-Hands, refreshed Slack approach, internal town halls)

  • Introduce metrics to track comms effectiveness and build a feedback loop with key stakeholders to refine strategy

Must-Haves
  • 8-12 years of experience in internal or corporate communications, with at least 3 years in a leadership capacity

  • Proven success of leading internal communications in high-growth environments and the requirements, challenges and opportunities of transitioning from private to public.

  • Knowledge of SEC restrictions and disclosure requirements as they relate to internal and external communications during IPO preparation

  • Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills across multiple formats (email, Slack, live presentations, etc.)

  • Strong executive presence with the ability to advise and influence C-suite leaders

  • Deep understanding of change management and culture-building principles

  • Experience managing and evolving comms cadences and channels at scale

  • High EQ, bias for clarity, and a sharp intuition for what employees need to hear, and how they need to hear it

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
