General Description:

HRL Laboratories is seeking a highly experienced and strategic Director of Information Technology to lead and manage our IT organization. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional leadership skills, technical expertise, and a proven track record of successfully managing IT operations within a complex, regulated environment. This critical role requires a deep understanding of government contracting requirements, security regulations, and cutting-edge technology solutions. The Director must have a profound technical understanding of complex IT systems, networks, and infrastructure, with the ability to navigate and optimize multi-faceted, mission-critical technology solutions. Expertise in the design, implementation, and maintenance of high-performance systems is essential, along with the ability to anticipate and address technical challenges within a dynamic and highly regulated space. 


Supervisory Responsibilities:

Lead, mentor, and develop a team of IT professionals, fostering a culture of customer service, innovation, and technical excellence.


Essential Duties:

Strategic IT Leadership: Develop and execute the overall IT strategy, aligning it with business objectives and ensuring its scalability and adaptability to future needs. Provide thought leadership on emerging technologies and their application within the defense contracting industry. Coordinate with cross-functional teams to provide IT solutions that enhance the productivity and effectiveness of the organization’s business and research operations.

Compliance and Security: Oversee the implementation and of all applicable security regulations and directives (e.g., NIST, CMMC, DFARS, ITAR) to protect sensitive government data and ensure compliance. Manage security audits and certifications.

Infrastructure Management: Oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of the company's IT infrastructure, including networks, servers, storage, and end-user devices. Ensure system stability, security, and performance.   

Application Management: Manage the selection, implementation, and maintenance of business applications, including specialized software used in the defense industry.

Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of IT professionals. Foster a collaborative and results-oriented environment.

Budget Management: Develop and manage the IT budget, ensuring cost-effectiveness and maximizing value.

Vendor Management: Manage relationships with IT vendors, including contract negotiations, performance monitoring, and issue resolution.

Stakeholder Management: Collaborate with key stakeholders across the organization to understand their needs and ensure IT solutions meet their requirements. Communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences.

Innovation and Technology Adoption: Drive innovation by evaluating and implementing new technologies that can enhance business operations and support the company's competitive advantage.


Required Skills: 

Minimum of 10 years of experience in IT, with a significant focus on the defense contracting industry.   

Deep understanding of government regulations and compliance requirements (e.g., NIST, CMMC, DFARS, ITAR).

Proven experience leading and managing IT teams in a complex, regulated environment.

Extensive experience with cybersecurity best practices and technologies.

Strong understanding of IT infrastructure, applications, and cloud computing.

Excellent project management skills and experience.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences

Experience with specific defense industry applications and systems is preferred

Experience with special program security regulations and directives (e.g., NISPOM, DoD 5220.22-M, ICD 503, JSIG, NIST SP 800-53) is preferred.

Experience working with government agencies is preferred


Required Education:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field with 10+ years of experience in an IT leadership role or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience.

Master’s degree in a related field preferred.

Information Security related certifications (e.g., CompTIA Security+, CySA+, GICSP, GSEC, CISSP) preferred


Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. 


Special Requirements:

This position is 100% on-site.

Responsibilities sometimes require working evenings and weekends, and in some cases, with little to no advance notice.

This job will also require up to 10% travel.

This position requires that the applicant selected be a U.S. citizen and be able to obtain a Top Secret/SCI security clearance.

The applicant must also successfully complete a polygraph.

As part of your role/function on the program, you will be granted privileged user access, which is subject to greater scrutiny as a direct result of the significant responsibilities. Please be aware that because of these critical duties, you will be subject to additional IT system monitoring and supervisory evaluation to ensure continuous adherence to Privileged User processes and procedures. Privileged Users are subject to a zero-tolerance policy for security violations.


Compensation:

The base salary range for this full-time position is $182,720 - $234,168 + bonus + benefits.

Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Please note that the compensation details listed reflect the base salary only, and do not include potential bonus or benefits.
