Job Summary

We are seeking a Director/Head of R&D Finance & Strategy to drive financial planning and analysis and strategic decision making with our R&D leadership team. You will play a critical role in shaping the financial strategy of our R&D spend as we scale the OpenGov Public Service Platform. You will lead a small team, providing mentorship and leadership while remaining hands-on with analysis and execution. This position will report directly to the Sr. Director, Finance & Strategy and will frequently collaborate with the CPO, SVPs of Engineering, SVP of Finance & Accounting, and other members of the executive team.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the bottoms-up Annual Operating Plan for the R&D function (Engineering, Product, Design, Product Ops)

  • Oversee monthly and quarterly functional reporting for R&D leadership, driving operational decision making through thoughtful analysis and recommendations

  • Deep dive into frameworks and process improvements to increase our sophistication in analyzing, forecasting, and optimizing R&D spend; particularly headcount management, hosting, and software spend

  • Own the capital allocation framework and ROI analysis used by the executive team to inform investment decisions across our product portfolio

  • Collaborate with FinOps and R&D spend owners to analyze and decision vendor spend and buy vs. build tradeoffs

  • Serve as a strategic thought partner to the CPO and SVPs of Engineering; provide decision support underlying our product growth strategy

  • Lead and mentor a small team based in the US and India while staying closely involved in analytical work and strategic initiatives

Requirements and Preferred Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or Economics preferred

  • 7+ years of related work experience

  • Experience in high-growth Software-as-a-Service or B2B subscription model

  • Experience as a finance partner to Engineering and Product leaders preferred

  • Advanced proficiency in financial software and data analysis tools

  • Strong financial modeling experience in Excel/Google Sheets; willingness and appetite to build models from the ground up

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to communicate complex information in a clear and concise way through memos and slides

  • Aptitude for relationship building and influencing strategic decision making

  • Resilient and “get-it-done” attitude; able to thrive in a dynamic, fast paced environment

Atlanta: $180k - $220k

San Francisco: $180K – $245K

On target ranges above include base plus a portion of variable compensation that is earned based on company and individual performance.

The final compensation will be determined by a number of factors such as qualifications, expertise, and the candidate’s geographical location.
