Role Overview:

ButterflyMX is looking for a Director of Hardware Operations to join our team in Irvine, CA. This is a high-impact, fast-paced role that requires a special blend of hands-on leadership, technical expertise, and deep industry knowledge. Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Hardware, this position will own several business-critical verticals, including inventory and logistics operations, cost accounting, warranty operations, fulfillment optimization, continuous process and operational scaling, supplier management, and more.

Responsibilities:

  • Inventory & Logistics Ownership – Lead all inventory and logistics operations across vendor and in-house warehouses, including receiving, storage, fulfillment, low-volume assembly, returns, and repairs.
  • Financial Accuracy – Ensure inventory valuations and financial records always match physical counts and statuses; oversee and correct discrepancies in inventory-related financial transactions.
  • Inventory Availability & Accuracy – Prevent stockouts, minimize carrying costs, and maintain full traceability of all components and finished goods from receipt through shipment.
  • Warranty Operations – Manage warranty tracking, in- and out-of-warranty status, warranty cost controls, and reserve planning; ensure repair parts and personnel are in place for timely resolution.
  • Fulfillment & Reverse Logistics Optimization – Continuously evaluate carriers, delivery methods, and 3PL options to improve efficiency, speed, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Process Development – Design, implement, and enforce scalable, repeatable processes for receiving, inventory control, fulfillment, and returns to ensure consistent reliability.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration – Partner with Hardware Engineering, Product, and Finance teams to enable smooth new product introductions, maintain hardware quality, and align operations with business objectives.

Requirements:

  • 10+ years of experience in hardware operations, supply chain, or logistics, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Proven track record of managing inventory across multiple warehouse types (in-house, vendor, 3PL).
  • Strong knowledge of inventory accounting, cost control, and ERP/MRP systems.
  • Experience leading warranty and reverse logistics programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and scale operational processes in a high-growth environment.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills; proven ability to partner across engineering, finance, and product teams.
  • Data-driven mindset with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proven experience with leveraging AI tools in both professional and personal settings. ButterflyMX is an AI-forward organization and the ability to optimize efficiency using AI is crucial in every role.
