Job Purpose:   

The Director of Hardware Engineering is a senior technical leader responsible for defining and executing the hardware strategy for ENTOUCH’s smart thermostats, environmental and occupancy sensors, smart building controls, IoT devices, and monitoring platforms. This role leads end-to-end development through high-volume production and lifecycle management, ensuring scalable, reliable, and compliant solutions deployed across distributed commercial environments. Reporting to the Chief Technology Officer, the Director leads a team of hardware and embedded engineers and partners cross-functionally to deliver secure, high-performance products aligned with business growth objectives. 

 

Responsibilities:  

  • Define and execute the hardware vision and strategy for our smart thermostats, environmental and occupancy sensors, building controls, and monitoring products, aligning with overall business objectives. 
  • Foster an environment of continuous improvement and innovation, encouraging the team to explore new technologies and challenge the status quo. 
  • Partner closely with software engineering, product management, and other cross-functional teams and stakeholders to influence strategic priorities, ensure seamless integration, and a cohesive product strategy. 
  • Provide technical guidance and oversight throughout the product lifecycle, from concept and prototyping to production and post-launch support. 
  • Implement and refine engineering processes to enhance and improve efficiency, scalability, stability, quality, and security of our products and services. 
  • Ensure that all required features, performance, cost, power, and reliability targets are met in hardware designs.  
  • Drive design-for-testability (DFT) and design-for-manufacturability (DFM) best practices. 
  • Lead hardware compliance and certification efforts with regulatory and compliance agencies.   
  • Represent the hardware engineering organization to internal stakeholders, vendors, contract manufacturers, and external agencies. 
  • Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and design review oversight to engineers.   
  • Define hardware architecture for smart building controls, edge computing and the related IoT ecosystem, ensuring seamless integration with cloud platforms and enterprise software systems. 
  • Ensure high reliability and performance across distributed, multi-site commercial deployments. 
  • Partner with software and DevOps teams to enable secure device connectivity, remote diagnostics, and OTA firmware updates. 
  • Incorporate field operations feedback into product improvements to enhance reliability and serviceability. 
  • Identify and mitigate hardware design, supply chain, manufacturing, and regulatory risks to ensure on-time and cost-effective product launches. 

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or related field. A master’s degree is a plus 
  • 10+ years of engineering experience 
  • 5+ years of experience in a leadership role managing a team of multi-disciplined engineers 
  • Deep technical knowledge of electrical engineering principles, mechanical design, and manufacturing processes 
  • Be a visionary leader with a proven track record of bringing complex hardware products/devices to market successfully 
  • An influential and proactive communicator who can articulate a clear vision, foster a culture of trust and accountability, and inspire a team 
  • Experience with building controls is considered a plus 
  • Experience with Edge IoT product development is considered a plus
