About the Role:

Vercel is looking for a Director of Global Payroll to develop and scale the payroll function from a late stage start-up to a company prepared to one day become a public company. This role is critical in developing and implementing robust payroll policies, leading system implementations and establishing strong internal controls. You will spearhead strategic initiatives aimed at streamlining payroll operations.

 What You Will Do:

  • Oversee Vercel’s global payroll operations, including in-house US payroll and international professional employer organizations.
  • Lead, coach, and develop the payroll team to achieve high performance and professional growth.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including People, Legal, and Tax, to address and resolve payroll compliance issues effectively.
  • Lead new system implementations and serve as the payroll lead for the creation of international subsidiaries.
  • Establish and maintain payroll compliance policies and procedures, ensuring alignment with legal requirements and internal guidelines.
  • Stay informed about changes in payroll regulations, tax laws, and labor laws across relevant jurisdictions, and update internal stakeholders as needed.Enhance accounting operational efficiency by assessing, standardizing, and streamlining day-to-day processes.
  • Manage employee expenses, including overseeing the company's travel and expense policy.
  • Assist with month-end closing activities related to payroll and employee expenses.

 About You:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field. Certification as a Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or through the Global Payroll Management Institute (GPMI) is advantageous.
  • 12+ years of experience in payroll, with a minimum of 5 years managing a team.
  • Proven experience managing global payroll operations at a public company.
  • Comprehensive understanding of payroll regulations, tax laws, and employment standards across multiple countries and regions, along with knowledge of global payroll best practices.
  • Proficiency with payroll systems including ADP and other technologies used in managing global payroll operations.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify compliance risks, conduct audits, and implement solutions.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with employees, internal teams and external partners.Knowledge of the payroll tax implications of employee equity awards.
  • Experience with NetSuite is a plus!
  • Located in SF Bay Area

The San Francisco, CA base pay range for this role is $184,000 - $245,000.  This salary range is an estimate. Actual salary will be based on job related skills, experience and location. Pay ranges outside San Francisco may be  adjusted based on employee location.  The total compensation package also includes benefits and equity-based compensation. Your recruiter can share more about the specific pay range for your location during the hiring process.
