About The Role

Amplitude is entering its next phase of growth—where AI, product innovation, and customer impact collide—and we’re looking for a Director of Global Communications to define how that story shows up in the world.

This is a high‑impact, hands‑on leadership role that operates with low bureaucracy and high autonomy, partnering directly with senior executive, product, marketing leaders. Your job: build an innovative, AI‑forward communications engine that shapes perception and turns Amplitude into a must‑follow brand across press, social, and emerging new media channels.

If you love turning complexity into sharp narratives, thrive in fast‑moving environments, and want to push the boundaries of what’s possible at the intersection of AI + comms + social, this role is for you.

What You’ll Do
  • Own and evolve Amplitude’s global communications strategy: Set and continually refine the global comms vision across PR, executive communications, AI narrative, and social media. Ensure our story is bold, consistent, and unmistakably Amplitude across regions, channels, and audiences.
  • Lead earned media and narrative development: Drive PR strategy for product launches, company milestones, customer stories, and market moments. Anticipate news cycles, spot story opportunities, and position Amplitude as a category‑defining leader in AI analytics.
  • Build executive and brand thought leadership: Partner closely with the CEO and other senior leaders to craft clear POVs on AI and the future of analytics. Turn those into media, social, and other moments that feel human, distinctive, and repeatable.
  • Strengthen social media channels: Own Amplitude’s global social strategy, including a strong emphasis on executive presence and building social‑first campaigns, creator and partner programs, and repeatable formats that drive relevance, credibility, and conversation.
  • Lead AI‑forward communications and experimentation: Translate complex AI capabilities into simple, credible narratives. Design and champion AI‑powered workflows across comms and social (e.g., research, drafting, measurement, listening), enabling teams to move faster while maintaining quality, ethics, and brand voice.
  • Manage and challenge external partners: Oversee U.S. and international PR/social agencies as true extensions of the team. Set clear strategies, goals, and metrics; push for creative, AI‑savvy ideas; and cut anything that doesn’t move the needle.
  • Support high‑stakes internal and issues communications: Partner with people and exec teams on high‑impact internal moments and issues/crisis communications. Bring calm judgment, clear storytelling, and a bias toward action when it matters most.
Who You Are
  • A sharp, confident, AI-savvy storyteller who can flex from long‑form narratives to punchy social posts without losing voice or clarity.
  • Have a fresh, integrated view of the comms function rather than one based on isolated tactics.
  • AI‑forward and hands-on: you actively use AI tools in your own work (writing, research, analysis, social), stay curious about what’s next, and enjoy coaching others to do the same.
  • Understand the B2B and enterprise tech media and social landscape—and know how to earn attention through ideas, not volume.
  • Comfortable advising senior executives in a fast‑moving environment and can confidently push thinking while staying collaborative and low‑ego.
  • Thrive in lean, low‑bureaucracy settings where you own outcomes, make smart calls with imperfect information, and bias toward experiments over committees.
  • Love building new concepts, campaigns, and formats—from AI‑native storytelling and creator collaborations to social‑led launches and content series.
Experience
  • 10–12+ years in communications/PR roles with significant experience in AI, B2B or enterprise tech.
  • Proven track record leading integrated communications programs across PR, thought leadership, social, and executive platforms (bonus if you’ve built or scaled AI‑enabled workflows).
  • Experience managing agencies and internal teams, with clear readiness to lead, mentor, and scale a small, high‑performing team in a lean environment.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
