We’re actively seeking a talented Director, Expense Management to join our Consumer Markets Division (CMD) Finance Team in Newport Beach, CA or Omaha NE
As a Director, Expense Management, you’ll move Pacific Life, and your career, forward by providing clarity and insight to the operating expense budget and delivering strategic decision support to Senior Leadership by taking part in the execution of our multi-year budgeting strategy in the Consumer Markets Division.

As a Director managing a team dedicated to becoming a world class business partner to functional leaders, you will deliver data-driven insights into key expenses and help them manage their spend. You will fill an existing role that manages 5 financial professional in the largest division in Pacific Life. Your colleagues will include fellow Financial and Actuarial professionals, as well as your Business Partners.
How you’ll help move us forward:

  • Lead the CMD FP&A Expense team, overseeing key financial processes including annual budgeting, quarterly forecasting, variance analysis, long-term planning, and cost optimization strategies.
  • Partner with cross-functional leaders to analyze and manage expense drivers, leveraging KPIs to deliver actionable insights and improve financial performance.
  • Serve as the financial control subject matter expert, conducting in-depth financial reviews and delivering strategic recommendations to senior management.
  • Prepare comprehensive business performance reports and respond to ad hoc financial analysis requests to support data-driven decision-making.
  • Apply strong analytical skills to interpret complex financial data, identify trends, and communicate findings clearly and effectively to stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate exceptional organizational capabilities, a proactive mindset, and a holistic understanding of financial operations and downstream process impacts.

The experience you bring:

  • 10+ Years of experience in managing multi-year expenses/budgets, including managerial experience
  • Experience as a Business Partner in a cross-functional decision support role within financ
  • Demonstrates high attention to detail, accountability, and responsiveness to requests, and a good sense of urgency as needed
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to personally as well as manage team through ambiguity, and maintain agility and flexibility
  • Ability to connect the dots and see downstream impact on decisions and actions made upstream
  • Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with all levels of employees to maximize performance, creativity, problem-solving and result
  • Strong leadership skills, effective coaching, managing and assessing talent and goal development

What makes you stand out:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting preferred, Finance, Economics, or Mathematics considered with equivalent work experience in Accounting. CPA/MBA preferred, but not required.
  • Experience in Essbase, Hyperion Planning, Peoplesoft, and/or similar systems.
  • Experience with expense allocation methodologies; Activity Based Costing, a plus
  • Experience in Alteryx, PowerBI, Tableau, a plus

Base Pay Range:

The base pay range noted represents the company’s good faith minimum and maximum range for this role at the time of posting. The actual compensation offered to a candidate will be dependent upon several factors, including but not limited to experience, qualifications and geographic location. Also, most employees are eligible for additional incentive pay.

$163,620.00 - $199,980.00
