About The Role:

We are seeking a strategic engineering leader to oversee the development, maintenance, and evolution of critical developer tooling infrastructure that empowers CrowdStrike's Falcon Sensor engineering organization. This role will manage three specialized teams supporting hundreds of engineers across the Falcon Sensor development ecosystem, ensuring they have world-class tools, workflows, and automation to deliver high-quality security solutions at scale.

The ideal candidate will be a hands-on technical leader with deep expertise in developer tooling, build systems, CI/CD pipelines, and engineering productivity, combined with proven experience managing large, cross-functional engineering teams and delivering exceptional internal customer service.

What You'll Do:

Strategic Leadership & Vision: Define and execute the technical strategy for sensor development tooling, ensuring alignment with broader engineering goals and CrowdStrike's mission. Drive innovation in developer experience and engineering productivity across the sensor organization.

Multi-Team Management: Lead and mentor three specialized teams totaling 20-30 engineers:

  • Operations & Build Infrastructure: Overseeing technical operations interfaces, build systems, and CI/CD pipeline infrastructure

  • Release Testing & Validation Tools: Managing static analysis platforms, automated bug filing systems, cloud simulation environments, and internal testing frameworks

  • Development Workflow & Tooling: Directing code formatting automation, linting systems, C/C++ library management, unit testing frameworks, and development environment setup automation

Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with sensor engineering teams, release management, quality assurance, and platform teams to understand requirements and deliver solutions that enhance developer productivity and code quality.

Technical Architecture & Implementation: Drive architectural decisions for complex developer tooling systems, ensuring scalability, reliability, and maintainability. Oversee the design and implementation of build systems, CI/CD pipelines, static analysis tools, and development environment automation.

Engineering Excellence: Establish and maintain high standards for code quality, testing, documentation, and operational excellence across all tooling teams. Implement metrics and KPIs to measure developer productivity and tool effectiveness.

Stakeholder Management: Serve as the primary interface between tooling teams and their internal customers, ensuring exceptional service delivery and proactive communication of roadmaps, changes, and improvements.

Talent Development: Build, grow, and retain high-performing engineering teams through effective hiring, mentoring, career development, and technical leadership. Foster an environment of innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning.

Risk Management & Operations: Ensure robust operational practices for critical developer infrastructure, including monitoring, incident response, and disaster recovery. Identify and mitigate risks that could impact developer productivity or code quality.

What You'll Need:

  • 12+ years of experience in software engineering with at least 8 years in engineering leadership roles

  • Proven track record managing engineering teams of 20-30+ people, including managing managers

  • Deep expertise in developer tooling, build systems, CI/CD pipelines, and engineering productivity

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
