We’re committed to innovation that empowers, not replaces. At MNTN, AI is a tool for growth, enhancing efficiency while keeping a people-first approach. Our goal is to streamline workflows and drive new solutions—without compromising the human element that makes our company great.

So if wanting to do more, own more, and make a bigger impact comes naturally to you, then you may be the person we're looking for to join us in our next stage of growth.

MNTN is looking for a Director of Engineering, Reporting to take the reins on one of the most critical parts of our flagship product, Performance TV. This is a high-impact leadership role where you’ll own the entire data experience—from the pipelines that move information, to the backend services that power insights, all the way through to the customer-facing UI. If you’re a SQL expert (and enthusiast) who loves tackling complex data challenges at scale, this role was built for you.

Performance TV is only as valuable as the clarity of its insights. You’ll be the driving force behind delivering accurate, timely, and actionable data that helps customers make smarter marketing decisions every day. Leading our reporting engineering teams, you’ll set the technical vision, architect scalable systems, and empower your teams to create analytics experiences that raise the bar for the entire industry.

What You’ll Do:

  • Lead & Inspire: Build, mentor, and grow engineering teams spanning data pipelines, backend services, and reporting UIs.

  • Own the Stack:

    • Analytics Pipelines – Design and scale data ingestion and transformation processes.

    • Backend Services – Build APIs that deliver reporting data that’s accurate, performant, and scalable.

    • Reporting UIs – Provide the engineering foundation for intuitive, high-quality reporting experiences.

  • Set the Vision: Drive the long-term technical strategy for reporting, ensuring reliability, scalability, and efficiency.

  • Raise the Bar: Implement best practices for data quality, monitoring, alerting, and performance.

  • Partner for Impact: Collaborate with product and analytics leaders to translate business needs into robust engineering solutions.

  • Shape the Future: Guide architecture decisions and own the roadmap for reporting systems that scale with our customer's growth.

What You’ll Bring:

  • 10+ years of engineering experience, with 5+ years in leadership roles managing multiple teams.
  • Deep expertise in data pipelines, distributed systems, and reporting/analytics platforms.
  • Strong track record of delivering customer-facing reporting or analytics features at scale.
  • Experience with modern data stack technologies (e.g., Spark, Flink, Kafka, Snowflake, or similar).
  • Strong background in API design and building backend services that support reporting and analytics.
  • Ability to lead frontend engineers in building performant reporting UIs (React, modern web stacks).
  • Proven ability to set engineering vision and drive execution across complex systems.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills; able to partner effectively across engineering and executive leadership.
  • Bonus: Experience in ad tech, performance marketing, or other high-scale data-driven environments.

MNTN Perks:

  • 100% remote within the US
  • Flexible vacation policy
  • Annual vacation allowance for travel related expenses
  • Three-day weekend every month of the year
  • Competitive compensation
  • 100% healthcare coverage
  • 401k plan
  • Flexible Spending Account (FSA) for dependent, medical, and dental care
  • Access to coaching, therapy, and professional development

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
