What you will achieve

As a Director of Engineering, Quality, you'll grow and manage an agile organization of engineers and quality assurance professionals who champion the enduring high quality Onebrief needs as a critical part of military operations. Your staff works in partnership with software development, release management, and site reliability engineers to “shift quality left”, and bake standards and measures into every of the development, release, and support process.

Onebrief is a SaaS product, but is also deployed in air-gapped secret networks. It presents unique challenges in moving fast while keeping quality high, and you will drive the strategy and investment in how achieve high quality at both speed and scale. Your job also includes:

  • Developing our QA craft, standards and processes, including coaching and team excellence.

  • Teaching and evangelizing quality assurance principles to our developers, and cultivating a culture of delivering consistently high quality.

  • Establishing KPIs to evaluate testing efforts, implementing changes as necessary.

You’ll report to our VP of Engineering, with an initial staff of 5-8 people, and future organizational growth expected. You’ll help us maintain and improve quality for our current cadence of frequent updates, and also make rapid incremental improvements that keep our current customers satisfied as we rapidly acquire new ones.

About You

We're seeking a candidate experienced in startup culture and engineering architecture, with a proven track record in team leadership and development. You should thrive in fast-paced environments, excel in championing quality at the highest levels, drive measurable quality improvement, and have a passion for fostering collaborative teams.

We are especially interested in B2B/SaaS projects involving aspects of creative support, data visualization, or modern collaboration.

Qualifications

  • You are a trained and experienced (5+ years) quality manager, who has successfully championed and improved quality in a startup-like environment.

  • You have a professional engineering background, ideally some development experience with technologies like React and Node.js.

  • You have a track record of managing people end-to-end, including recruiting, interviewing, hiring, coaching, developing, promoting, performance managing, and letting people go when necessary.

  • You manage projects well, apply high judgement, and make sure your team delivers timely and predictable results.

  • You have a comprehensive understanding of the current state of testing and quality technologies and best practices.

  • Creatively implemented shift left methodologies that demonstratively led to higher code quality.

Compensation Range: $235K - $310K
