Lead data engineering, analytics, and automation efforts at Alt. Oversee ETL pipelines, analytics engineering, and AI-driven automation solutions while managing a multidisciplinary team and enhancing company data capabilities.
The summary above was generated by AI

Alt is unlocking the value of alternative assets, starting with the $5 B trading-card market. We let collectors buy, sell, vault, and finance their cards in one place and we are backed by leaders at Stripe, Coinbase, Seven Seven Six, and pro athletes like Tom Brady and Giannis Antetokounmpo. Our next frontier is real-time pricing at scale—the Alt Value that powers every trade, loan, and product on the platform.

The Role

Behind the scenes, Alt is a data company. We ingest the market’s listings and sales in real time, clean and link the data, and turn that signal into pricing, risk, and automation that power our auctions and fixed‑price experiences. We’re building the operating system for the hobby—where data, AI, and agentic workflows remove friction for sellers, buyers, and enterprise partners. Join us if you want to ship systems that touch live revenue, tame messy real‑world data, and define a new standard for liquidity in alternative assets.

What You’ll Do Here

Data Platform & Pipelines

  • Own all ETL/ELT from external marketplaces and partners (listings and sold history data). Deliver coverage, freshness, and low latency across sources (APIs, feeds, and compliant web scraping).
  • Design and operate pipelines ; contribute to our asset AI detection entity resolution, and robust outlier detection/cleansing.
  • Set measurable SLOs for freshness/latency/accuracy; build monitoring, alerting, and runbooks for data incidents.
  • Own the Alt internal asset catalog and help increase proprietary dataset.

Analytics Engineering

  • Lead the analytics engineering function and partner closely with the Analytics team (analysts). Provide a clear, self‑servable metrics layer and executive dashboards for GMV, liquidity, funnels, seller/buyer behavior, and ops SLAs.
  • Own the event taxonomy and product analytics in Amplitude; design A/B experiments.

Automation & AI Agents

  • Map high‑leverage manual workflows (e.g., listing QA, price suggestions, dispute/CS routing, KYC review, payout reconciliation) and deliver AI agents to replace manual workflows.
  • Partner with Product, Ops, Risk, and Finance to prioritize automations by ROI and shipped impact.
  • Building cross organizational workflows

Leadership

  • Lead and grow a multidisciplinary team (data engineering, analytics engineering, and automation/ML engineers). Manage vendors and budgets.
  • Translate business goals into a clear roadmap with quarterly outcomes.
Tech You'll Work With
  • Warehouse/Lake: Snowflake; object storage (/S3).
  • Full text search databases: Typesense
  • Orchestration: Airflow; Data streaming
  • Transformations & Quality: dbt; Great Expectations/Soda; data catalog.
  • Ingestion: Airbyte/Fivetran plus custom Python (Scrapy/Playwright) with proxy mgmt.
  • Analytics: Tableau, Metabase (core BI) and Amplitude (taxonomy, funnels, experiments).
  • Infra/Dev: AWS; Terraform/IaC; GitHub Actions; Datadog
  • AI/Agents: OpenAI/Anthropic or Vertex AI; MCPs, Agentic Frameworks (Langchain, Pydantic AI) ; Embeddings model, RAGs; evaluation/guardrails frameworks.
What You Bring to the Table
  • 8–12+ years in data engineering/analytics, including 4+ years leading managers and cross‑functional teams.
  • Built and operated high‑scale data ingestion from heterogeneous sources (APIs, feeds, and web data) with strong SLAs on freshness and accuracy.
  • Led an analytics engineering function and partnered with analysts on metric definitions, product analytics instrumentation, experimentation enablement, and exec reporting.
  • Hands‑on with Python and SQL; comfortable reviewing PRs and diving into schema/model design.
  • Have experience scaling Analytics across organization. Practical experience delivering LLM/agent systems in production with measurable business outcomes.
  • Experience working on operational workflows
  • Marketplace, fintech, or e‑commerce experience (pricing/valuation, risk, payments) preferred
  • Prior success scaling teams in a high‑growth startup
  • Bonus: You’re familiar with the collectibles space or alternative asset marketplaces
What You’ll Get From Us
  • A seat at the table to help shape the future of Alt and the alternative asset space
  • Autonomy and ownership on projects that matter
  • $100/month work-from-home stipend
  • $200/month wellness stipend
  • WeWork office stipend
  • 401(k) retirement benefits

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
