Job Description:

About the Role

We're looking for a Director to own our website end-to-end: the full experience humans and agents have with us online, from first discovery through decision and beyond.

This role also owns discoverability in the broadest sense. As buyers increasingly get answers directly from tools like Claude, ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google AI Overviews, we need our brand to be accurately represented, cited and recommended everywhere people and AI systems go looking for answers. You'll lead the vision for this experience and guide a team in bringing it to life.

What You'll Own

Audience Experience & Buyer Journey Ownership

  • Own the website as the connective tissue of the buyer journey - awareness through decision and advocacy

  • Lead how the team maps different audiences (prospects, customers, partners, press, investors) and shapes content and navigation around their needs

  • Set the standard for tone, storytelling and clarity so every page feels like one coherent experience

  • Define our content strategy for how audiences actually consume information today across formats, channels for both human and AI-mediated discovery

Digital Experience for Two Audiences: Humans and LLMs

  • Direct our web experience strategy for both humans and Agents: offering structured and unambiguous experiences for LLMs and AI Agents to parse and cite accurately

  • Set content and UX standards that satisfy both audiences at once: entity definitions, structured data, direct answers, strong internal linking

  • Build feedback loops to monitor what LLMs say about the brand and correct gaps at the source

Discoverability: SEO, AEO & GEO

  • Build and lead a program to monitor and improve brand visibility across AI answer engines (Claude, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Copilot) alongside classic SEO

  • Direct the team's work structuring content (schema, FAQs, entity clarity) for LLM and search visibility

  • Own the brand's presence on key "answer surfaces" (Wikipedia, G2, review sites)

  • Set organic growth targets and oversee the team's CRO experimentation

AI-Powered Marketing Operations

  • Lead adoption of AI tools across the marketing org - content workflows, personalization, on-site assistants

  • Evaluate and build the business case for emerging AI marketing technology

Measurement & Reporting

  • Build a unified dashboard spanning classic web/SEO KPIs and AEO metrics

  • Report to leadership on how AI-driven discovery is reshaping the funnel and what it means for budget

What You'll Need

  • 8+ years leading web/digital experience, including 1–2+ years working on AI search/AEO/GEO strategy

  • Experience managing or leading a team, with a track record of setting direction and staying close enough to the work to guide it well

  • Track record owning a website as a full buyer-journey experience, not a single workstream

  • Strategic thinker who can shape category narrative, not just execute a content plan

  • Understanding of how LLMs retrieve and cite information (conceptually - not an engineering role)

  • Strong stakeholder management across marketing, product, design and engineering

  • Comfortable operating in ambiguity, since best practices in this space are still evolving

Nice to Have

  • Experience with structured data/knowledge graphs

  • B2B SaaS background

  • Public POV (writing, talks, LinkedIn presence) on AI search or SEO

Benefits:

In addition to competitive base pay, this position also includes an annual incentive opportunity based on target achievement,  pre-IPO stock options, benefits including medical, dental, vision, 401(k) with a match, and more, plus generous paid time off, paid holidays, paid day off for your birthday and other paid leave policies to support employees through all phases of life.

Location preference:

USA - CA - Palo Alto

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
