Position Overview

The Director of Digital and Social Engagement is a strategic leader and team builder responsible for shaping how TransLash Media shows up across digital and social platforms—and ensuring that vision is executed with clarity, creativity, and consistency.


Reporting to the CEO, this role operates at both a high strategic level and in the day-to-day realities of execution. The Director will lead a growing digital team, manage external partners, and collaborate across internal content teams to ensure TransLash’s digital presence fully reflects the breadth and ambition of its work. 


This is an ideal role for someone who can set vision, build systems, and empower teams—while keeping leadership aligned and informed without requiring heavy day-to-day involvement.



Key Responsibilities

Strategy & Vision

  • Own and evolve TransLash Media’s digital and social strategy, aligning with organizational goals around reach, engagement, subscriptions, and brand awareness 

  • Develop a clear, cohesive editorial and content framework across platforms 

  • Identify emerging platforms, trends, and partnerships to keep TransLash at the forefront of digital media 

  • Lead digital strategy for major campaigns, launches, and new media products 

  • Build relationships with values-aligned platforms and strategic partners 

Team Leadership & Management

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of 2–4 digital and social staff 

  • Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performing team culture 

  • Create clarity around priorities, ownership, and execution 

  • Manage a network of contractors, including influencers, designers, and multimedia creatives 

Executive Partnership & Cross-functional Collaboration

  • Serve as a trusted partner to the CEO, COO, and leadership team 

  • Provide proactive insights, flag risks early, and streamline executive involvement 

  • Collaborate closely with Podcast, Film, News & Narrative, and Zine teams to align messaging and amplify impact 

  • Represent digital strategy in organization-wide planning conversations 

Operations & Analytics

  • Establish benchmarks and lead reporting across all digital and social channels 

  • Translate performance data into actionable insights and recommendations 

  • Oversee workflows, production timelines, and quality standards 

  • Manage agency and vendor relationships in partnership with the COO



Requirements

Qualifications

Experience

  • 10+ years in digital content and social media strategy, with experience operating at scale 

  • 5+ years managing and developing teams 

  • 5+ years launching or growing media brands or products 

  • 3+ years working within an established news or media organization 

  • Experience partnering directly with senior executives 

  • Background in editorial, writing, or journalism strongly preferred 

  • Deep knowledge of and connection to the trans and broader LGBTQ+ community required 

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred 

Skills & Abilities

  • Strong strategic thinking with the ability to move between vision and execution 

  • Excellent people management and coaching skills 

  • Ability to “manage up” and communicate effectively with senior leadership 

  • Highly organized with strong project management capabilities 

  • Proficiency in CMS platforms, social publishing tools, and analytics systems 

  • Deep understanding of digital trends, audience behavior, and platform dynamics 

  • Comfort working remotely and traveling as needed

Salary: $135,000 -$155,000 annually

This is a fully remote position. The Director of Digital and Social Engagement may be based anywhere within the United States.
