Job Description:

The Director - Development, Security and Product & Business Curriculum sets the strategy for Pluralsight’s software development, cybersecurity and product & business learning experiences across all learning modalities on the platform. You combine deep subject matter strength in either professional software development or cybersecurity with a solid working knowledge of the other domain and a passion to keep learning until both are second nature. Partnering closely with Content Strategy, Curriculum, and Author teams, you ensure our learners and authors enjoy a cohesive, high-quality journey from “first course” to “expert path.” You are also the face and voice of our Development & Security portfolio, able to articulate its value to customers, prospects, and internal stakeholders alike!

Who you’re committed to being:
  • A domain expert with significant, up-to-date mastery in one of the following with a working-level proficiency in the other - plus a genuine drive to close any remaining gap: Modern software development languages, frameworks, and practices (e.g., Agile; modern languages; architecture) OR Cybersecurity (e.g., security analysis; red team operations; governance, risk and compliance).
  • Someone with a strong working knowledge of product management practices and soft skills (e.g. Agile, Scrum, leadership skills)
  • A content creator who is driven by creating world-class, professional-level content. What you value in content creation mirrors our content values: We value quality over quantity, impact and engagement over speed of production, the learner's time, and the learner's attention. We embrace technology, and we value innovation and creativity over tradition and convention.
  • A savvy market analyst with the ability to quickly recognize and grasp new or unfamiliar technologies
  • An empathic leader who leverages data, experience, and sound judgment to solve complex problems and rally support for solutions
  • A strong communicator, whose skills extend to both written and verbal communications, with a knack for diplomacy
  • A leader AND team player with the ability to work effectively with distributed teams
What you’ll do:
  • Curriculum leadership for Development, Security and Product & Business content: Co-create the topical roadmap with the VP, Content Strategy & Curriculum. Design the course-level roadmap (all supported content types).
  • Pilot new, progressive content styles that drive repeat learner engagement.
  • Collaboration with other teams to develop tooling and workflows for the implementation of curriculum plans and content acquisition across all stages of the content creation pipeline
  • Customer-facing evangelism: represent these topical areas in sales calls, webinars, conferences, and executive briefings.
  • Team leadership: manage curriculum managers; balance workloads; foster professional growth.
Experience you’ll bring:
  • Technical subject matter expertise in software development or cybersecurity, with credible working knowledge of the other.
  • Working knowledge of product management practices
Requirements:
  • A proven track record in technical education with deep understanding of instructional design techniques and approaches
  • Strong, demonstrated leadership with the ability to rally a team of content professionals to do their very best work
  • Experience building and directing geographically distributed teams comprised of differing roles and skill sets
  • This is a remote role; however, applicants located within 45 miles of our Draper, UT, or Westlake/Dallas, TX offices should expect to work on-site Tuesday through Thursday, with remote flexibility on Mondays and Fridays. This approach enables more effective collaboration, quicker decision-making, and a stronger culture, while still providing flexibility.
Why you’ll love working here:
  • We’re a blended workplace, where team members work remotely or in a hybrid setup depending on their role and location
  • We’re mission driven and guided by our culture pillars
  • We have a strong commitment to diversity and belonging
  • We cultivate a culture of trust, autonomy, and collaboration
  • We’re lifelong learners and champion team member growth and advancement
  • We’ve got you covered - team member benefits include competitive compensation packages, medical coverage, unlimited PTO and Summer Fridays, wellness reimbursements, Pluralsight subscription, professional development funds and more.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
